  1. Vulcan XH558 will be grounded forever, unless further funding of £1million
is identified by early March. This funding will allow the project to pay its
monthly expenses, clear debt and provide a stable financial footing for the
    future.

So - If you want to see her flying in 2009 then please consider joining the
VTTSC or at least consider chucking a few quid their way.

Umm, at least one bomb did hit the runway tarmac, though I can't
recall how much it actaully affected Argentine air operations.

There would have been other indirect benefits: the threat of bomb
attack would have put an extra strain on Argentine resources and
possibly on how they used the airfield.

    Not all sources agree
    http://www.britains-smallwars.com/Falklands/vulcan.htm

"None of the Vulcan raids actually destroyed Stanley runway, nor did
they deny the Argentines using the runway. Craters show in the image
below were in fact heaps of earth placed there by the Argentines to
make it look as though the runway was damaged. "
I think it was pretty minimal, now a Polaris on the Argentinean
mainland, that would have been effective.

One hit the runway, turning it into two, somewhat shorter runways.
But yes, it burnt a shit load of fuel, something like 14 Victor
tankers kept the whole parade airborne.

  7. Stopped them using their Mirage fighters according to Vulcan 607. I
think though it was more a statement of intent. I'd recommend 607 as a
    fine read.

I had heard that some of the damage was faked, so maybe that last
crater or two was just that.
Well, according to the web page you pointed to, it resulted in Mirage
fighters being stationed on the mainland, not at Stanley, so not
    *that* minimal.

AIUI, winning a battle isn't just about destroying materiel; it's
about gaining the initiative, consuming or disabling (directly or
indirectly) the enemy's resources and gaining control of the
battlefield. Ulimately, in removing the enemy's will to continue the
    battle.

The Argentinians were under the impression that the Vulcans bombs were
guided by the Argentinian radar at Stanley*. So whenever the task
force wanted to switch off the Arg radar, theyd put a Vulcan up, the
Vulcan radar sig being very clear, apparantly... It also dissuaded the
Arg air force from putting fast jets on the Faultline Islands...

*There were various stories circulating at the time in the brit press,
such as Vulcans being fitted with sidewinder air-to-air missiles,
    radar-guided bombs...

CArrier launched Vulcans you fool! It's obvious. One fully loaded
Vulcan, a bit of bungy, and off she goes over the side!

There were two other Vulcan missions on Stanley... Once the Vulcans
were identified by the Argentinian radar, the Argentinians switched
thier radar off... This then allowed the Harriers to fly about without
the Argentimians knowing where the Hariers were going... Just by
appearing on radar, the Vulcans had an effect...

Considering I love the Vulcan and would love to see it keep flying, I
can't help thinking they've left it to a bit eleventh hour this
