Yeah, you're right. I did semi-spank that GW a couple
of times, but it was very momentary due to my need to
    remain in profile.

I really don't care what kind of ET's the GW will turn.
Anyone interested in a GW has long past that concern.

If we did swap bikes, you would have to ride that Valk-
yrie. I think you've become way to spoiled now for that
    kind of reversion.

I really don't care how fast a Gold Wing will accelerate/
reach top end. Anyone that has interest in riding a Gold
Wing, probably is not interested in those items either.

Me and the RedShad wuz at the Yamaha place today talking with a young man
who had one of those GL1800s. He said that bike of his would really pull. I
said '' Well yeah, but you don't care do you". "Of course not" he replied.

yeah maybe, but you're gonna' need some pretty hefty
power to lug around those bubba's/bubbette's, plus all
the trailers, power boats, campers, etc.

Top Post here: Gary,below- after reading your essay on ''head shakes'',
I conclude that’s exactly how a VTX 1800 Honda rides, not to even
    mention a Harley Bike.

IMO, all V-Twins ride and handle just like you explained. (that's a
    fact, Jack) bjay.

Maybe I just don't know the difference.

I've let go of my Handle Bars at various speeds, to zip up stuff, etc,
never felt anything odd. Except when I rode' V-Twins. Better be alert,
    riding these bikes.<wink> bj

BJAY-------Let me explain it this way....
I don't want a head shake on a Gold Wing because it will slosh all the
water out of the swimmin' pool.

Seriously, the head shake I experienced is more a dis- traction by
perception, that a distraction by reality.
In it's most demur form, it merely occurs as a minor oscillation either
felt or seen in the bars.(handle bars, that is, for all you drinkers).

It's just a very faint movement of the steering mechanism when the rider
is not holding tight enough to suppress the movement. In the more
serious occurrence, it can progress to what's affectionately referred to
as - "tank slapper", "speed wobble", "shimmy", or my abso- lute favorite
    - "grocery cart wheel".

I suspect the shake on the Wing disappears with speed. But, with some
bikes, the condition intensifies with speed, eventually tossing off the
rider and crashing the bike. Have you ever seen any of those Bonneville
Salt Flats videos where MC speed records are being attempted?

Those bikes(the ones that still look like motorcycles) will get into
shakes at speed, and down they go. Unlike my 40 mph experience, there's
not much correction time at 250+ mph.

The type of oscillation I saw on the Wing was really nothing more than a
hands free issue. I wasn't riding hands free, but I gently felt it and
backed off the grip to let it go and see just how serious it would
    become.

Here's the result of a speed wobble in it's most severe variety.

GaryWalker said; Bjay---I run hot/cold on the fairing thing, but you're
not gonna' find many Gold Wings runnin' around these days w/o fairing.

None, not any wings since about 85, that I'm aware of.

Dont ja just hate it when someone calls your black Valk, a stripped down
    Wing?

--I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to suggest that a faired bike, or more
specifically, a Gold Wing, would ever exper- ience similar disasters.
BJ asked a question about the wobble, and associated characteristics.
Most likely, the question was in jest, but I took the trouble to
    describe/show the symptom/result anyway.

Speed is certainly the catalyst for a serious speed wobble. Although
I've never experienced one, I've certainly heard all the stories on
    speed wobbles.

I guess I would've really thought they were an item of the past. But,
    maybe not.
    Thanks. GW.

Gary I didnt particularly ask my question in jest, but was asking or
commenting on the ''head shake/wobble on a GW'' as being absurd, in the
back of my mind, as I read about it on here.

My God, we're talking about the best ''Touring Motorcyle'' ever made.
    (IM0)

If indeed any Wing has a wobble or a shake of any kind, it is in total
astonishment, and shock to my perception of what I believe to be the
best motorcycle ever made, as far riding on 5000 to 10000 mile tours.
    IMO. (that's all!)

(Another way to say this is; If one wants to get the IronButt award, and
do it with ease---ride a GW) (hey maybe the I.B. rules and regs state,
one cannot ride a GW Barge.- ;-D (I dunno)

Like when Louie said he rode that Wing that had too much wind blast, to
be comfortable. A wing is reknown to have the ultimate, best wind
areo' dynamic stuff on and around it, along with the best balanced
engine made. (I couldnt believe it, still dont) -chuckle-

Gary---Next time you get out with us,lets swap bikes and you can ride
that Goldwing like its supposed to be ridden. Then you will switch up on
us and say...damn them Goldwings have WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much power for
me...scared the shit out of me...I think I will go look at something
toned way down like a Yamaha Venture.

    Good way to state it.

Yeah Garys balls are probably smaller than they use to be.

Well yeah------I guess if a nut rides up to 50-60 mph, and then, ''lets
go'' of the Handle bars, with both hands, and has the talent to glide
all the way down to 5 mph, that Motorcyle would most likely wobble,
‘hail it would probably wobble and fall over, especially a 700
pounder, like a valkyrie. (dingdong) huh? ;>/)

Gary, deep down, Redshad knows that the Valk is still unique and can
hold it's own, maybe not as comfy, but realizes it's still the second
best. ( an estimated opinionated guess- here) heh-heh-

The exception is; indeed the RedShad.

He enjoys blowing away any other bigBike, and most small bikes for that
matter-- and it doesnt matter the Model.

He use to ''tour'' on a 650 VStar.

No, because that's exactly what I call it. After the 1000's
    of questions I get about it being a V8, a Boss-Hoss, a
V6, and even arguing with me that it has a Honda Acc-
ord engine, I trust most know what a GW is.

I really do become quite tired of the explanations. It's
amazing at how many people have never see/heard of
a Valkyrie before. Some, even bikers themselves.

Precisely my point. They've(Honda) been makin' Wings
for 30+ years, and they've still got a wobble, albeit very
minor. I was surprised, to say the least.
