I'd like to ask you a few Gold Wing questions. Are you available? NG, or email? Thanks - Gary
Yeah, but I'm also interested in the ST13. Actually, I'm trying to disclose any information I can that will cause me "not" to buy a new motorcycle. I guess I could get you to give me some of those bogus equipment descriptions you've got, just to confuse me. <g>
Gary, I saw a photo of your black Valk. man, I like it. It's a lot like mine, not dressed up. Dont have all that stuff on it. It is like a cruiser. Mine is black with a red-racing stripe. I see now you were bullshitin' about not keeping it shined up. ( I got it).... ;</) B. Jay Kana-- NETexas 03Valk-&-98 Magna Have a Dandy Day--
Well, I certainly wasn't aware that photos were being taken of me, and/or, my motorcycle. It's a damn good thing I got no warrants I guess. Yeah, the 'ole Valk is pretty rough, cosmetically. But, I make sure she has very regular oil changes and various filter replacements. She runs real good, got a little backfiring on deceleration goin' on, but other than that, purrs like a kitten. I think she'll probably run off and leave that 'ole Gold Wing that Redshad recently bought. <g>
"Bogus"? WTF? Those were "selling points" for that bike. I thought old broke down folks were into converting their luggage racks into backrests! Is it *my* fault that Honda hasn't come up with the idea? I *did* like it after all those descriptions of accessories, I told you exactly that you were looking at a battery cable...and you had to get a second opinion to be sure! The ST is nice, but it'd put me to sleep. I also like the big body of the 1100 as opposed to the 1300. The electric windshield is nice during the rain, but I'd have to knock it off the bike to do some real riding. I'd also scrape the top of the saddlebags the way I ride through curves. I like having a ride that I can scratch an itch on my elbow without taking my hands off the bars! If you're planning a bunch of long distance rides in comfort, get the Wing. If you're planning an occassional ride outside the zip code and don't plan to be gone longer than a weekend, and you want to ride a bit sportier bike through traffic, go with the ST. If you just want to bang around Keller's one or two days a week and don't care about getting out anywhere....keep what you've got. If you want to go CRAZY F-A-S-T, get a Hayabusa (pig...ugly pig too), Blackbird, R1 (smaller, nimble, less comfort...just as quick, almost as fast) or ZX12 (a few mph slower, but still in the league...also similar ride to the R1). If you get serious about considering a sport bike, let me know and I'll loan the Hurricane to you and let you see if they're for you....if "serious buyer" doesn't find his sack of cash by then and buys it.... Hope all this shit helps! Later, Brian
Yeah, you were right. I should've listened. No, I'm past my "Go Fast" requirement(s). Although I'd like to ride a hot sportbike for about a week end, I'm not going to buy one. Far too much temptation(s). As I was composing the Greg Sabatini response, it occu- rred to me that the perfect bike for me would be the Rune. But, I'd have to wear a sack over my head just to ride it. Like the unknown comic. <G> Gary
You might consider the SUNL. I've only heard one complaint against those products. One of the best dealers for the SUNL is in Houston. He gives a good price to posers/posters of tx.moto

Therefore, yes if you had the balls, you could probably take the Redshad on his bigOld Goldwing, with all that stuff built around it. };-D But I warn ya' the boy rides, he-----rides. Sincerely, your black Valk looks purty good to me. In person she might have a flaw or two. eh? Aha, I saw a photo of you and.....welll.... anyway, I saw a photo of you. :>/) B. Brian,----- say--------you're corresponding with an old feller (Gary). WTF, he aint gonna' straddly no high sitting -sport quick ass, light weight bikecycle like yours. Now, that ST is a ''sport tour'' bike, with 138HP. If I'sa gonna ride all the way up to north to mess with Calgary, I'd git' me a FJR (or is it frj ?<g>) or an ST. (maybe, anyway) Onlyiest thang' I dont like about the ST is it sets wayyyyyyyy toooooo high. just thought about that, so If I go to Canada to ride circles around Calgary, I'll just cock back and cruise up there on the MightyValk. :-/) (just mumbling to myself this morning, pay me no mind). :-/) B. So,then when I get old and sitting aound with my old cronies, and my GrandKids, I will be able to say; ''I owned three unique Hondas. The Quick Magna, the Mighty Valk, and the Awesome Rune.'' (hopefully, I live that long) :<>/) (Footpeg note) I dont think I could hold up a uh' ''Boss Hoss''although I do admire that big ol' bike. So, it aint on my ''gittin' list''.) bjk B. The Wing, based on my reading(s), has more hp/torque than does the Valk. But, I would certainly expect that. I rode a Wing yesterday at the Honda store demo day. I don't think it's common, but the Wing I mounted had a "head shake" in the 35-40 mph range. Of course, that was the predominant mph range we used, so the oscilla- tion may have appeared/remained elsewhere also. Arriving home, I did some net research of the Wing "head shake" thing. It appears I'm not the only one experiencing the fault. I was just very surprised that they'd put prospective buy- ers on a bike with a problem, unless they're all that way. I didn't think to ask the other Wing rider about the "shake" on his Wing. But, beyond the very minimal "shake", the bike was rock solid/steady. Quite a different experience for me.
You don't want to go with a FJR over a ST. The FJR is nothing more than a dumbass machine. Everytime I walk up to one and look it over, I end up finding more shit on it that's ill-designed. One of the guys in Tennessee who rode with us when I picked up the Bird rode one. He had been trying a trade of some sorts (or at least trying to sell his bike) before I bought the Bird. While I rode with him and when we'd met up, he started talking about all the flaws in the FJR. I told him that a couple people I knew of had them and talked well of them. He told me "they've never really rode the FJR, or at the least have never rode a real bike". I had to agree...knowing the only two people I'd known who owned them prior to that date.
I think that headshake is designed account old people eating at the 'all you eat' buffet. Yamaha needs to get update on that Venture. ....louie
Hey red...you are correct sir. No unmodified wing can catch a Valk. But I would differ on the matter of head shake. That's only newer wings...wings like mine do the chicken dance and shake their butts all over big sweepers. -- Keith Schiffner History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it. Robert Heinlein
Based on my cursory net research, it appears that the Wings experience the head shake, and have done so all the way back to the 80's. Again, according to user group entries, blogs, etc, the corrections range from tire changes(front, rear, both), fork braces, loading, prayer, just about anything. I was just surprised of this minor demon, and now I am surprised it's apparently been accepted for such a significant portion of the Wings history.
