    Hello

I have lurked long enough to know you live in France....perhaps you can help
    me with these questions...

Do you know what has to be done if I bring a bike in from the UK? Will I
have any problems registering it? Will it need a controle technique..? Any
    other aspects..

    TIA

I tried posting the same question a couple of days ago...it showed as sent
but didn't show on the newsgroup. I had the same problem throughout
yesterday; none of my newsgroups were updating. Today everything's sweet
again. If you already answered my post on the 10th could you re-post ...TIA

FFS. Does google groupe mean nothing to you? Look here:

    It's that easy.

Johnny bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the
    lines of:
The man to ask is dog. He's gone through all of this. But he's not
    posted for a while.

You'll need to get in touch with the prefecture that will be able to
give you more info. If the bike is over 100 bhp, then you'll need to
have it restricted. You'll need to change the direction of the
    headlight beam too.

If the bike has never been sold in France, you'll have no end of
    problems. As witnessed by dog.

Already moved. We're near Montpellier. I found a bike on Ebay which was a
good enough price to consider making the trip to the UK and bringing it down
    here.

  11. That's right. He reckoned that Hilary had the only CBR400 Baby Blade
registered in the country. No end of hassle.

I think one will have even more hassle if one tries to bring in a bike
that develops over 100 (OK, 106 or whatever) horsepower, because the
Frogs don't like them at all.

You'll need to get in touch with the prefecture that will be able to
Good points. The bike is under 100 bhp so that wouldn't be a problem. More
relevant now though; the ebay price jumped significantly putting it on a par
    with one here in France.

Crystal clear dog. Thanks for your help. We went through the prefecture
stage when registering the Renault Kangoo; no trouble there. Further, I
    didn't know that I won't need a controle technique..

    Regards,

'sgreat, innit. TBH, even though it's not needed, it doesn't stop me
from keeping the bike up to a decent saftey standard. After all, it's
me that will suffer if bits fall off as I ride.

Mind you, I think most other French bikers are pretty good in keeping
their machines in decent nick. Although SOB's do exist, there are less
of them in France than the UK, IMO.

Oh yes. And H too, of course. It'd be great to see you both again.

Mind you, with the recent changes in my job, more trips to London (and
possibly following weekend breaks) are looking likely.

I may even do the odd trip by bike :)

I'm in Jordan at the end of the month and I'm supposed to be doing a
trip shortly afterwards to everywhere (apart from Saudi) end-Sept/Oct.
I'll find out the exact dates at the end of the month, as I'll be
seeing the salesman then. (Some of the trips need to be done jointly)

    I've not forgotten. :)

dog bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the lines
    of:
From what I see in Paris and the suburbs, generally, yes. Real ratty
    SOB's, I don't see.

I wonder how it would work from a legal viewpoint, if a biker is
stopped by Plod with a SOB that is obviously unroadworthy?
