Ok, wrong person answering, but how heavy are you prepared to go? If you want to hate 'metal' then go straight for Morbid Angel. Or at least some Carcass. If you want singing rather than shouting/gargling glass then there are a few tracks on the 3rd Slipknot album that you should try. Faith No More were a bit basic, but quite different, at the beginning. Its hard to find stuff that has aged well, tbh. I could knock out a few CDs of 'good for their time' or 'good now' but I'd have trouble doing one that was 'as good now as it was then'. It's all disposable, just like pop music, just a different group of people who like it. Off the top of my head I can think of "Liar" by the Rollins Band, "This Love" or "Fucking Hostile" by Pantera, anything off the first Rage Against the Machine album, most of "Reise Reise" by Rammstein and "Weak" by Skunk Anasie, most of "Metallica" (the previously mentioned 'black' album) and Queen's Greatest Hits (we're all allowed one weird choice, surely) as good 'metal' you might wish to download/have a copy sent...... But then others might disagree with the use of the word 'metal' Dave (former (admittedly not quite professional but still paid shit loads for it[1]) DJ at Rock City, Nottingham.... As well as 2 other venues on other nights[2]) [1] Relatively speaking about the early 90s for a pissed bloke, playing occasionally, in the opening 2 hours downstairs... [2] Worse paying, got even more pissed, used to play thrash interspersed with dodgy rave stuff as the bpm was the same....
Only semi? Must try harder then... I like your thinking. I may do that very thing. Perhaps over-analysing everything just gets in the way. Power Of Numbers? I don't think I know that one, would you care to enlighten me? I do prog, to a certain extent. I like Dream Theatre, pescatorial Marillion (can't stand the sound of Steve Hogarth's voice, insipid whine that it is), Rush, and others. Like, with above-stated restrictions. Entirely ambivalent, although as a singer she had few peers. Entirely acceptable. Not the dance stuff, but some of his more recent work is okay with me. One to investigate. I take it you don't mean the fat Scottish actor/comedian... (yes, I know, just kidding) Not heard much, but what I've heard I've ignored, really. I shall pay more attention. Studied some of his at school. "Gymnopedies" particularly. Okay if you like that sort of thing. Recognise the name, is all I can say. I think I see what you're saying.
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, DR Seriously, listen to "Crazy". The timing is stunning, and her voice is fantastic. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - Podium Placed Ducati Race Engineer as featured in Performance Bikes and Fast Bikes WS* GHPOTHUF#24 APOSTLE#14 DLC#1 COFF#20 BOTAFOT#150 HYPO#0(KoTL) IbW#41 SBS#39 OMF#6 Enfield 500 Curry House Racer "The Basmati Rice Burner", Honda GL1000K2 (On its hols) Kawasaki ZN1300 Voyager "Oh, Oh, It's so big" Suzuki TS250 "The Africa Single" Yamaha Vmax Honda ST1100 wiv trailer
I'm sure there's some opening for a camp retort here....... I do think you should give them a go, but be prepared to hate it Just put it on. Vermilion Part 2 is very non-Slipknot. Track before is 'Before I Forget' which is still a bit mild.... And the play "The Nameless". You get 3 tracks, one 'metal'ballad, one 'metal', one a mix.... Faith I'm talking "We Care A Lot" here. Early metal/rap crossover..... I'm embarrassed by it, but I just wish I'd seen them live before Freddie died. The Live Aid segment is *superb* and I know that wasn't Queen at their best... I blame my mum and her constant assrertions that Mr mercury was the most heterosexual man on the planet all through the late 70s/early 80s... Possibly... I can't remember many names as the stuff I used to mix in wasn't exactly mainstream, but it was loud and fast and made the fact that the metal guys had bothered to write some lyrics seem like a novelty.. Dave
I worry that this may not get Bear to appreciate metal. But it *is* good, in a "TDK tapes" advert style... [1] Dave [1] "Ooooh. Oooooooh. Me ears are alight!"

I thought this paragraph and the closing ones particularly thought proking in this arena: "With all of aviation's emphasis on safety, the human factors of small planes and the environment in which they fly would be laughable, if it weren't so dangerous. Why? Because the whole thing is awash in "macho." Just as with Unix, just as with DOS, the more confounding everything is, the better it is, because it helps separate the men from the boys-and the girls, who aren't really invited. Until that changes, general aviation will continue to experience both a high fatality rate and a continuing drop in new pilots."

As do I. I think I first saw him on 'Tonight' or whatever the early evening news program was. 'Readjustment Blues', great it was.
I liked Rock's production on "Metallica", but I felt him made them too "clean" after that. Rubin is good. I love "Reign In Blood".
