Fair comment. Sign o' the Times is one of my all-time favourite albums.
Mind you, he isn't all that loopy: he gave Sheena Easton one, if not
    several.

    "Moderately Arrogant
    Your arrogance score is 95%

Congratulations, you are somewhat arrogant. Keep throwing logs on the
fire of your disdain for humanity, and perhaps you will make something
    of yourself someday.

You scored higher than 99% on arrogance"

What the **** would they know? Shitters.

No insult taken; just staying in form. I'm entirely aware how the
rest of the world perceives the music I like. FWIW, I didn't choose
to like it; it just stood out from all the other stuff I heard as a
teenager. As I'm still mentally about 16 (that should come as no
    shock) that's fine by me.
Probably their most commercially successful work to date; not as harsh
on the ear as other stuff.
Dad's a big Johnny Cash fan. I used to utterly detest the man when I
was younger, but of late I've learned to appreciate his work properly.
That's not to say I like all of it, though. I still want to grab a
knife when I hear a pedal steel guitar... I heard Seth Lakeman's
"White Hare" on R2 recently, and actually found myself liking it.
More bands have gone that way than will ever be recorded (in any sense
    of the word).
They've always struck me as an emotional sort of band. I think that's
why I prefer metal; I don't get the emotions in music the way others
do, and metal tends to be fairly basic in that respect. Borderline
Asperger's, maybe? ;) There definitely seems to be a whole "other
world" out there, of people and interactions, of which I have no
    understanding.

I always say to a mate that his confidence exceeds his ability. Sounds
like the same type of thing to me.

  7. That would be a very loud ding. I sold - very successfully - for over twenty
years. (Not doing it right now, the role is slightly different.) You simply
can't afford to have that sort of self doubt in a sales role, or you fail at
    the outset.

  8. Nothing wrong with that. I used to listen to all the big band stuff when
I was at home - force fed diet of Radio 2. I'd still happily listen to
it. I'm sure there's Glenn Miller and big band stuff in my collection.

As far as I understand the term, yes. I just don't get people in
general. Probably how the relationship went tits-up last year, and
also probably why the few months on Prozac. But hey, that was last
year. Now if I can just get rid of this dripping goo which appears to
be infesting my nasal cavities, I'd feel a whole lot better about
    things.

New album should be interesting. Apparently it's back to "Kill Em'
    All".

They said that about "St Anger" and that was utter shite.

The mix on "And Justice..." was that bad they needn't have bothered
    recording the bassist.

My favourite Metallica encompasses around half of "Master Of Puppets"
and half of "Ride The Lightening", "Metallica" (the "Black Album").

Their first album "Kill 'Em All" is a great example of pure thrash,
but you really need to be in the mood for it. Their later stuff
really doesn't do a lot for me.

At least they've finally ditched Bob Rock; I look forward to hearing
what Rick Rubin does with them.

I'd say 'And justice for all' and the Black album were their highlights,
and as a track 'one' is still probably what I'd think of as trademark
Metallica.. That said, I do like that live album they did with the San
Francisco Symphony orchestra, because it's different.

No, but the other way round looks right. Me and scoring chicks do not
appear to be compatible, generally. I'm reasonably confident I'm not
    gay, before anyone asks!
AIUI, I'm fairly emotional myself, in that I tend to involve myself
far too heavily with anything I do, and usually end up burned
(generally my own fault) - I have little emotional restraint. It's
more that I can't read others' emotions; body language may as well be
Aramaic to me, and subtlety in any form just goes right over my head.
As a result nowadays I have a tendency to shut myself off, unless I've
    either (a) gone past a certain point or (b) got horribly drunk;
witness several outbursts here as evidence...

Musically, I think I'm developing an appreciation for Blues; as that's
where metal came from, however, that's not entirely surprising. I
think it was Pip that recommended Joe Bonamassa; the guy is a genius
(Joe, not... erm... as you were!). I've enjoyed classical for some
years now; not to the extent that I do metal, but I have a few
classical recordings in my collection - it'll be no surprise to you
that they tend toward the bombastic and overblown, rather than the
delicate and bittersweet. Jazz doesn't do a lot for me, at least what
little I've heard; the more free-form stuff leaves me very cold
indeed, and the easy listening type is quite bland. Strangely enough,
some electronic music works for me - not the extreme left-field stuff,
but things I can't even name. Old-school 8-bit game music even.

I can listen to more or less any form of music objectively, and listen
to what's being played. GCSE Music (don't ask which grade, I was
there for the lessons but freaked in the exams) gave me that. I only
get positive vibes, as it were, from a few forms.

    A fair assessment.
Not one I agree with, although your last comment resonates slightly.
Again, bands who take themselves too seriously...
Nothing Else Matters was, in fact, hugely controversial at that point
in their career - it was, in effect, that the most hardcore (not as in
genre!) Metal-to-the-max band ever sold out and did a ballad. It did
    them no harm, though.
Nope. Wouldn't know it if it hit me; I file all that stuff under
"dance", which is to say the small round filing cabinet in the corner.
However, it's only fair that I take a chance as you have; recommend
something, and I'll investigate further. If it goes
"doomchakadoomchakadoomchaka", however, I give it 30 seconds.
Fair enough. You have a more open mind than I do, I'll admit that.
