It is, and I bless Limewire for enabling me to find stuff I'd long forgotten. <fires up Tuxedo Junction>
They first applied it to the wheels of French artillery. The idea was that the French forces in Indo-China could then make a faster retreat. There was also a plan to instal metal slides from the highlands down to the lowlands, to allow mass evacuation of French forces (to say nothing ov bowels) should the Viet Minh attack there. These were to be coated with Teflon. However, the mass surrender at Dien Bien Phu meant that the military qalities of Teflon were never fully evaluated, and the French flogged the rights to the Yanks to stick it on saucepans, after the Academie Francaise ruled that plastic coated pans went against everything Escoffier stood for. The Yanks flogged billions of dollars worth of Teflon pans to the Frogs anyway, and were thus able to fund their war in Vietnam. It's a funny old world.

Considering he's almost certainly in the same killfile it'll still be unseen. I had to laugh at TOG because I'm sure he spent a couple of minutes compiling the post and I wouldn't normally have expected him to do that on something concerning Bear.
Well, I don't. What the hell does that mean? Sounds like the kind of thing a tabloid horoscope writer would say. You arrogant ****.
Absolutely. I started a 3 month contract in 1997 as an Oracle developer. Up to that point, I'd never even *seen* Oracle, but my arrogance/self-belief/whatever allowed me to bluff my way through. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
LOL no you weren't. Why do you always try to lie to me? When have I ever let you get away with lying? Go to your room.
No, Krusty wanted to tell his story about how awesome his blagging skills were and this is probably the closest he was going to get to an in. If someone has the "self belief" to do something how would they conclude they couldn't do it in the first place?

Not *my* blagging skills - those of the consultancy I was working for at the time. I did however have to believe I could do it, which required a certain level of arrogance. In my case, I knew I wouldn't be able to do the work (obviously), but believed I could pick it up fast enough to cover my arse, which turned out to be the case. I know that doesn't /quite/ satisfy your question, but it's close enough. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
I think this is where the whole 'arrogant' thing breaks down - confidence, self belief, or whatever you might call it is not the same as arrogance. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Dammit, making a fool of myself here because I can't remember the origin myself. Something about Hitler's main fault being that he gave anti-Semitism a bad reputation. <Waves hands> Alzheimer's, that's what I blame it on.
Maybe not by definition, but it can be perceived as being the same. Depends on how you portray your confidence, & who the perceiver[1] is I s'pose. [1] Is that a word? -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
