I don't think you're in any position to judge this point.
Well you've got them wrong in this case- there are at least four if not
    five proponents.
Odd that, given I'm not the one renowned for it.

Ha. They've become everything they railed against 20+ years ago, and
appear to be revelling in it. The fate of all young rebels.

The Southpark episode which had one of them crying because he couldn't
have a golden, guitar shaped swimming pool to keep his shark in because
of illegal mp3 downloads was a cracker.

Hang on... I don't think I actually want to know the answer to that
    one.

At least This Is Spinal Tap was *meant* to be a piss take.
??? Lars is the only actual Scandie... James had a very strict
religious (practically fundamentalist) upbringing, Christian Scientist
IIRC, which is reflected (a) in some of his lyrics and (b) in how
completely and enthusiastically he went off the rails when given the
    chance.
Never let the drummer have any creative control. They can't handle
it. Just let them get pissed and hit things, it's all they're good
    for.

I had to google to find he was replying to me...

Laughed my bitch-tits off reading the rant.

It would be quite funny seeing how someone can get so worked up when their
plan backfires if it weren't so sad......

I've never hidden the fact that I'm a huge old-school metal fan. I
make no excuses; one man's meat etc. Metallica have always been one
of my favourite bands (apart from their last album, of which more
later); I'd still pay to go and see them as for those that like it
they are one of the premier acts in the genre, and on their day put on
one hell of a show. However, they have seriously undermined their
fans' respect for the band, by turning into the very same thing they
set out to destroy all those years ago with all the energy and
determination of a West Coast American teenager on stolen
    Jägermeister...
Sounds about right. Lars was originally training under his father
Torben, former Danish tennis champion, to follow in his footsteps.
When the adolescent Lars discovered heavy metal on a trip to England,
his ambitions changed. Later, so did his accent. James just wants to
have the family life he never had as a kid, and maybe a beer or two.
Crates, that is. He's also a bit of a shit-kicking C&W fan at heart.
"Some Kind Of Monster", from one of their song titles.
Was it their most recent album, "St. Anger"? An album which promised
to recapture whatever it was they had lost along the way, but which
delivered one of the worst production jobs ever heard, and writing
reminiscent of, if I may, "something a bunch of pissed-off 6th
formers would have done, while in the throes of a ketamine trip".
Whoever is responsible for the drum sounds should have their own
eardrums pierced. 9mm Parabellum should suffice.
    I rest my case.

    <terrible confession time>

I'm starting to *really* like Glenn Miller's music.

It's stunning to hear a band that size playing tighter than a gnat's
    chuff. Really lovely stuff.

And... I think in any given profession that the 'successful' people
would be marked down as 'arrogant' in any case.

I've been told I'm arrogant more times than I can deny so...I won't
deny it. Although I do deny my cheeks are chubby.
