BTW, this applies to listening to metal.

Yeah, I'll put a track listing in (and you'll have metadata on the
tracks anyway) and I'll try to group stuff by genre.

  4. I was talking about the first release with the black guy singing, can't
    remember his name.

Interesting that Bear didn't consider them 'metal'. Has he not seen Bill &
    Ted's Bogus Journey??!! :)

Not in the spirit of UKRM admittedly. Well you did claim not to be
arrogant. In which case, the good news is that if, as proposed it is
analogous to sound, 1 of Bear's Champ units is the reference level for
dBC , and so 1 Champ = the threshold of arrogance perception (for
people with 'normal' arrogance detection at least).

Actually, the best thing you could do is go to a metal and heavy rock
night at a decent rock club and keep asking the DJ for the details of
anything you like. This is really to only proper way to listen to
metal. It's just not the same at home or in a car even at full whack.

The only drawback to this plan is it will put you in close proximity
    to Goths and Emos.

    Gosh... you don't say.
Bollocks does it. It depends on the industry of the (mis)user.

dB means whatever the user intends it to mean. If you work in the audio
industry sure you're talking about measuring SPL and lazilly some would
use dB rather than the correct use you've mentioned below. Something
I've ranted about here in the not too distant past.

If you work in Radio then yes you'd use dBW or dBm; depending on
    relative powers and what-not.
dBC or dB(C) would be fine.

My objection was to what you wrote initially: dC(C).
    You do? Why?

The guitarist, "Big Sick Ugly" Jim Martin, always preferred metal - he
was a metal guitarist, plain and simple. That's why they parted
company in the end, the rest of the band went in a more experimental,
less pigeonhole-able (is that a word?) direction. IIRC he's now
making money in property. Chuck Mosely, their former singer, was in
Bad Brains for a while. Maybe still is.

Yes. And he's responsible for the travesty that was "St. Anger".
    A personal favourite.

I thought the accepted UKRM form was "no shit". Perhaps I thought my
comments might be read by more than just you.

My use of the phrase 'standard notation' was as you correctly point out
too specific. I intended it to refer to acoustics only. TBF I can't
actually remember hearing the term decibels used in the popular media
to refer to other than a SPL.
Indeed it should be dBC(w) where w is the 'weighting'.

I could say I just missed the 'B' key, but I am prepared to admit when
I have been out-pedanted. Quite correct. A deciChamp would be simply
one tenth of a 'Bear' Champ unit. It sounded more amusing at the time.
Is that an echo ? Why do you care? Would taking it personally increase
or decrease his ARL (Arrogance Rating Level)?

That's normal. The average age in a rock club is somewhere in the
    late-30's.
It's more that you feel it more than you can ever at home.
*ding* I find Emos and Goths fucking hilarious. Mind you, I find
what most rockers wear pretty funny as well, by as DR said, that
purpose of rock and metal is to take the piss out of itself.

That's brilliant. Where do these gonks learn the phraseology? There
must be a sort of central chic-speak language school somewhere.

That reminds me. We have a visit from our capo de tutti capi tomorrow
(on bloody press day, needless to say) and our H&S Looney has asked if
I can tidy my desk[1] in preparation for the Great Man.

**** knows why. They say the Queen smells fresh paint wherever she
goes: I suppose our Uberboss sees clean desks. Anyway, I'll leave it as
    is.

[1] She officially declared it a Hazardous Zone[1] last year, so when
my daughter came to spend "a day in the office" (usual school thing),
she wasn't allowed to sit at it.
    [2] I *wish* I'd got a certificate or something.

    Less thinking, more living. Yes.
Never looked at it that way before.
    Makes sense.
I suspect I've got more than I thought I had...
Maybe I'll give him a second chance. To be fair, I was never a huge
fan, it was more a band I didn't dislike IYSWIM.
It fits a mood; one I'd rather not be in.
I intend to. Neil Peart's book, right? Bloke is a true star.
    Amen, brother.

I was comtemplating saying that you're so bad on a board that any
confidence would make the premise true, but I figured saying so would be
    too obvious for bait.

You're right though, a modicum of respect is definitely required in such
    far away places.

    It crossed my mind.
