  1. Oh fount of all knowledge on travel discounts; do you know of a website that
might give a better rate for the Royal Mirage in Dubai?

    ta.

Which rate are you basing it on?

  3. Published one on the website to start with and then I did some digging in
the "obvious" places like Expedia? I couldn't find anything better than
rack. I'm sort of not all that surprised, as they have really good
occupancy, but thought that you'd be the one to ask!

Places like Expedia and Ebookers are good places (always try both) as
they use the Galileo database for things like this.

A search for the hotel name in Google brings up a few other sites to
book through. Compare prices like that.

You're going the right way about it. Also: If the price after
currency conversion on an 'unknown' website seems too good to be true,
that's because it is too good to be true.

  5. Odd fact of the day no.1

Did you know that every entry that you type into Galileo goes through
    code that I wrote?

It's enough to scare me sometimes..

One difference - my code gets used by people other than wannabe
    suicides..

Are you responsible for "NO HOST RESPONSE - RESET KEYBOARD" in
    FocalPoint?

While you're being the FOAK what's the command to find out if the
Company is permitted to issue on a particular Plate? I looked at the
Galileo Formats manual today and then closed it again and phoned our
IATA department who told me that we could indeed issue it.

I had a selection of Filed Fares (Full Published Fares) on a PNR and
    the airlines looked something like:

    1. TG
    2. TG
    3. PG
    4. PG
    5. VN
    6. TG
    7. PG
    8. TG

I know from experience that we can issue TG (Thai Airways) and PG
(Bangkok Airways) on the TG plate, but wasn't sure about VN (Vietnam
Airlines) - we don't have a contract with them but IATA said we could
issue TG, PG and VN on the same ticket stock as it was Filed Fare.

BUT... what command do I use to find out, in future, if I can issue VN
on a TG plate (be it e-ticket or paper ticket) if you can remember off
    hand?

AND: if you know that answer to that one would the same command also
be correct to identify which Plate can be used for a Codeshare flight?
For example a QF flight showing as @BA 1234 or a BA flight showing as
@QF 5678 - We'd normally issue these on our BA bespoke Plate but if
the @Codeshare was a TG flight showing as a @VN flight would the same
string give the correct ticket stock?

  14. Ta, I will - it's a superb hotel, but I'd not mind saving a few dirhams.
Cool. And reassuring to know I'd not missed anything obvious to the expert.
: ) I know what you mean about dodgy websites.

    Much obliged!

  16. Err.. dunno. I was a programmer (and that was 10 years ago) - I only
learned enough to do the bits that I was testing[1]. And I have forgotten
    most of that.

[1] And not being in any of the applications teams it was most
irrelevent anyway - I was doing stuff like data compression and
    middleware programming.
