I always go to the best looking one, regardless of queue length.
Might as well have something to look at.

I like the self service ones because no one pretends to be nice to you or
acts as if you mean something to them.

Hate the zap as you go round yourself fast track ones.

Not true. In Turkey, fat women (at least used to be) well regarded -
it was a sign that hubby could afford to feed her well. I think the
same applies to a lot of the Middle East as well, and possibly Asia
    too.

I frequently do, but it wouldn't have really helped me with my argument
    on this occasion.

  6. Also worth bearing in mind that the fat one will either be desperate or
    happily married...

  7. Well I read this book

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...99049/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_8_1/026-5937749-3110812

and it had an interesting introductory section about historical and
societal views re obesity / fatness. I take the point Marina and you
have made which is why I made the comments I made. I am not proposing to
argue over what the word "most" means.

An awful lot of problems date back to the development of medical
thinking and development of diagnostic theories. Many of them were wrong
but their conclusions have become part of typical thinking. The real
issue is that the medical profession does not understand why some people
are more prone to obesity than others. Meanwhile society continues to
condemn people because of their body size without looking beyond that
element of the person - which is where this debate started.

  8. It's not an easy book to read. It cross relates the experiences of real
people who are obese with the pressure they are placed under by society.
There is a description of a stomach stapling operation which is
    horrendous.

It then describes the historical background to obesity and obviously
makes reference to the issues you and Marina have remarked upon. It also
traces the development of medical and drug treatments and how particular
trends in treatment have become prominent. It rounds off with the race
to find the "fat" gene and the enormous influence of the drug companies.

It also shows that there are people who are pre-disposed to obesity and
who cannot do anything about it - thus countering society's view of fat
people being lazy buggers who cannot resist the next Big Mac.
that is part of the argument within the book and its shows how incorrect
    the theory is.
But prevention would be difficult for those who have a pre-disposition
to certain conditions. It is also an unproductive channel for the drug
companies who prefer to peddle "miracle cures" to people who are
desperate to lose weight. It was interesting to read the background to
many of the drugs that are constantly listed in spam E Mails that rant
about how "fat bastards can become thin instantly if only they swallowed
50 tablets of miracle slimming drug x". Some weight loss drugs provide a
slight and short term weight adjustment. Most have no long term effect.

For some people there is no cure, for some others certain drugs may help
and for others still a lifestyle change may be the answer. There is no
    one cure all.

sorry but for some people there is no cure. For others there is drug
treatment. And for others beyond the other groups then your suggested
    remedy is also appropriate.

Please do not perpetuate the myth that *all* obesity can be resolved by
    eating less and exercising more.

So what happens to an obese person who lives off fish, chicken and
vegetables? If the fat don't shift what's getting used up to power them?

It appears perfectly acceptable for the government to do so, I guess
Mr Morgan imagined the same leniency would apply to him.
