Eh? That's like saying politicians are out to make the world a better place,
    not maintain power.

Why is ecology still seen as a beardy weardy hobby of trainspotting
proportions? Is it because it's unimportant? AFAIC the US and Russia pulling
out of the Kyoto Protocol is tantamount to war crimes on a global scale and
yet we're more concerned about "our boys", "justice", and a transparently
morally bankrupt tabloid editor. The media and political parties have simply
been the two sides of the same coin for decades now, a coin toss of a soap
opera that feeds the gawping public. Get what we deserve, we do. Where's me
    sherbert lemons ffs.

Porl secured a place in history by writing:
I tend to associate this quality with coherence, eloquence and a
demonstrable degree of logic and consideration in the spoken and written
word. I've never heard PM demonstrate anything like it. If I had to offer
an assessment of his intellectual skills on the basis of what I've heard or
read by him, I'd struggle to offer anything beyond "Thick"

That's a subjective definition and seems to only include positive aspects. I
    have a broader interpretation.

The pieces he's done on the cult of the celebrity and the mutually self
serving relationship with the red tops were well considered, coherent and
    effective..

Utterly dislikable person yes, but I'd suggest not thick.

OK, serious comment. (unusual for a saturday afternoon, I know)

Why is it people seem to associate body weight with stupidity? I've
know plenty of overweight people with brains, and few stupid ones.

Even looking at your example, the fat girl on a supermarket checkout...
If anything that's the sign she's probably the smart girl in the
supermarket, after all, one could assume she enjoys her food. Well, by
working where the food is she's not got to walk much, and also she's
going to get a good staff discount - so that's more food for less money.
    She's got it sussed.

I put it to you that the skinny old biddy on the checkout in Sainsbury's
is the stupid one. (at least in my local Sainsbury's) She can't even
use the till properly, and takes ages to do anything, then forgets to do
the cashback even when you remind her - dumb old bitch.

Anyway, time to go shopping. I'll test my theory by going to the
checkout with the fattest girl on it, and maybe will post a report if
    I'm really bored..

  11. Oh that's easy.

People who are fat are only fat because they are lazy, idle and not
clever enough to do anything about their condition. Fat people have
nearly always been treated with disdain by most societies. The linking
of stupidity (or being thick in this example) with being fat is an
entirely typical reaction of "normal" people [1].

It is quite a revelation to see how people treat you when you're a fat
person. It is not a pleasant experience.

[1] whatever the hell a normal person is.

One of Securicor's Directors; once told me "I never hire fat people
because they're lazy and invariably not too clever"

He was being serious. Mind you, this was about 15 years ago, I guess now
it's less likely someone would express that view to a junior member of
    staff.

Call me cynical, or paranoid or whatever, but it occurs to me that the abuse
of prisoners thing was about to blow anyway, and the roll-out of
demonstrably fake pictures of said abuse - from a fairly enigmatic source -
may have been an attempt to pre-emptively muddy the waters...

He has only been on the show once, 1996 I believe.
That was the series where Paul was away and Clive Anderson stood in
for him (Piers Moron also tried it on Clive that night but it didn't
    work of course).

You're right that he brought up the "popularity line" with Ian, he
said "does anybody like him (Ian)" and the audience all cheered saying
    yes, very amusing but painful.
