Bizarre, I only know 2 people with Audis like that both called Andrew. (Well
only one now). Unless you are the same one, wasn't a tuned version of the 5cyl
    lump in there was it?

  3. Same with the Citroen stratified charge petrol lumps, now you mention
    it.

  4. Believe it or not, but the cleanest engine going - in terms of
particulate emissions - is not LPG, CNG or anything gas. It is,
actually, a modern truck diesel, using a cat and a continuously
recirculating trap (CRT) for the particulates.

Yes, honestly: fewer particulates than gas engines.

Biodiesel is fine if it's made with proper refining processes and with
the right additives, and - crucially - to the correct Standards (note
cap S). The problem is that it usually isn't and there is no British
Standard[1] for biodiesel anyway. So any old shit gets punted out.

[1] The requirements for lubricity and density are important, because
electronically controlled engines need to have the correct figures, and
if you put sub-Standard stuff in, you'll feck the injector pump sooner
    or later).

I just picked up a kit to do my V8 for 110 quid. I'll fit it myself, it's
not rocket science, oh, hang on.....

Of course. It's a mixture of Nitrogen and oxygen at around 30psi.

YTC. Which bit of toroidal tank don't you understand?

  7. And some, I was watching the test unit at my local garage when they did
a test on my 406 HDI and the guy wound the revs up.

Have a read further up the thread. Basically, turbo boost makes up the extra
compression which makes the best use of the higher octane fuel. LPG is 104
    RON.

When you're considering capex on the conversion, it makes a significant
    difference.

More to the point, I just don't trust what the Government has said.

  15. Broadly speaking I'm sure you're right - the diesel mags always used
to look at the different sizes of particulates and alleged that petrol
cars could be worse for the smaller [PM2.5] sized particulates than
    diesel.

For tight fisted owners, correct driving techniques with a diesel once
you are used to it get results, after 3 months driving the 2.1 diesel
406 I can get 45 mpg on journeys, and 42 with mixed driving. Golden
rule - no over 75mph driving.

Any direct injection Peugeot/Citroen/Volks/Seat/Skoda and the latest
common rail Fords will do easily over 50 mpg for the 2 litre sizes.
    again, driving technique.

Come on then, what are the "correct driving techniques"?
    Oh. Bollocks to that, then.

  18. 406 Hdi 2 litre 110 HP often does 50 mpg on long runs.

The torque curve on this engine is totally artificially produced by the
EMU. It hits max torque at 1800 and only drops 10% till 4800 then drops
    like a stone.

This give you an almost straight line power delivery. Quite spooky when
    you first drive it.

Or so I am told by a reliable source.

  20. Yes, that's right. Interesting, IMHO. I *think* SC engines have been
used in aircraft, but you'd need a Weggy or a Dodger to be sure.
