    Right then .....
Nice little ride down to North Devon today, picked up the new-to-me
    CB400F1 onna S plate.

Contrary to the naysayers it is actually a rather tidy bike.
A quick furtle in the shed turned up what looks like enough bracketry
to replace the aluminium headlamp and indicator bracket with the
correct items, naturally they will need a quick gritblast and some black
2pack before I can fit them.

All of the chromework is in excellent shape, someone has spent a load
of money on mudguards, chainguard and a motad exhaust system. Even the
indicator stalks look new. The spokes and rims could do with a bit of
wire wool, some patience, and an oily rag but nothing serious enough
to be a concern, just surface rust on the spakes and a few blemishes
    on the rims.

Only one set of keys so I need to order some blanks from David Silver
before the crack in the ignition key gets worse and snaps. On the
plus side even the steering lock works, which is a bit unusual.
One litte niggle, the kickstart is a bit floppy on the splines,
    maybe it just needs spannering.

The seller gave it a new battery this morning to make sure it would
start on the button and sure enough it runs OK if a tad uneven.
A quick blast tomorrow followed by some carb balancing should make
it run sweeter and shut the usual clutch basket clatter up.
A slight hint of camchain noise should respond to the TOG poke and
    all should be well.

Whoever did the black paintjob on the tank and sidepanels made a
nice job of it, one tiny inconspicuous tank scratch shows that it
was originally yellow, I am in 2 minds about possibly ordering some
yellow paint from www.rsbikepaint.co.uk, maybe it would look better
    in original colours.
