    Now listen here Clem!

It'll do 60 in 5th, but it snatches and jerks and does more damage to the
chain than if I ride in 3rd. 4th in 70-80 and 5th over that.

Don't make me come up there and slap you

So it's not fuggen "happily" pulling 5th then is it?!!
If third's the highest gear it'll happily pull than that's the gear I'm
    talking about!
    Sheesh!

Ummm... Zebee... did you read the bit about the friction and wind
resistance? (Do you ever read a whole post before leaping in with stupid
    snide statements?)
It's easy to hold 5000 rpm in top at 115kph but I reckon it'd be pretty
hard (and annoying) to do it in first at [big fat guess] 40kph.

Wrong. Shows you have no idea what you're on about.
You're trying to tell me that there have only been
10,000 cops in the NSW 'force' since the beginning
of time? The cop's number was 66312. Events like
that don't slip from memory in any sort of hurry.

If they don't, why do Vic drivers cry foul all the time? Is it
    just the camera's?

That's a bit exaggerated. No-one can sit on a speed and keep it within the
law without checking it regularly. If you elect to become a moving roadblock
and sit 10 ks lower than the limit, you'll probably not have to check your
speedo,.....but no-ones game to do that or want to anyway.

I'm the same as Clem in that I vary speeds although I scan the speedo and
    adjust often.

Small changes in wind and road elevation can result in plus or minus a few
    k.

Personally, I think 10% tolerence is fair.
I went from 18/43 to 17/45 on the Pig which means I can cruise around in
third instead of second at 60km/h now.

But my acceleration is ballistic... : )

Always seems to be drivers from the other states crying foul of these mythical
Victorian police speed tolerances... which isn't all bad... keeps some of the
tourists off my favourite roads :)
Apparently so... but I don't know first hand.

It won't happily pull 5th at any bloody speed. It's a red boat-anchor with
    rubber bits.

New-year's day ride up the Derwent Valley, smacko?

Typical WA. In NSW all mobile speed cameras are operated
only by Police. Not subcontractors. Police are exempt from
the parking regulations, so parking tickets wouldn't ever be an
    issue.

You'd be in trouble in the streets around me.
Half of them are 40k zones

As for me I am generally happy if some of the vintage crap I ride even runs let
    alone does 60 klms
