I don't think there is much more that they can do apart from being 'out
there' keeping an eye on things.
Resourses diverted from cancelling their current activies into some other
form of road safety improvement is unlikely to make much difference IMHO.
I have no doubt that this is correct, but how do you police fatigue?
Well, judging from the amount of revenue that they are raking in from speed
cameras, I don't think many people are falling for it.
The financial politics are a completely different issue.
Utilising revenue streams only for the dept. that generated them, is another
ludicrous furphy trotted out by the anti-speed restriction brigade.
Agreed, but it's a bottomless money pit, there has to be a cut off. Health
and education are both bottomless money pits, priortising is the Gov's most
difficult task. I wonder if they relate the price of mending road trauma
against the money spent on road safety?
    Probably not :)
More marketing forces than anything else in a lot of cases, unfortunately.
It was probably 30 years or so until Holden/Falcon finally decided catch up
with the leading Euros, and fit independant rear ends to their vehicles as
    standard equipment.

    I witnessed the advances in
Well you may be an exception, but I'm constantly amused by people who
suddenly develop a 'concern' for road safety, in direct proportion to
frustration felt at the latest speed deterent initiative. :)

So now you're suggesting that, given that the road toll was steadily
declining until more focus was piad to speed detering measures, the less
restrictions placed on drivers, the better they become?
    Interesting theory.

You obviously don't drive in Sydney.
Given the revenue raised, we're obviously not buyin' it.
Is this your way of making the roads safer? Interesting theory.
    No, it is simple physics.
It is, anti-speed restiction propaganda, to ignore the degree of physical
damage done by relatively higher speeds on the basis that speed wasn't the
causative factor. It just demonstrates your subjectivity on the matter.

    Some proponents of
Jogging maybe, but if you're as fast as the Road Runner, then you could
really cut that window of exposure down. :)
    What are you suggesting here?
    Thin end of the wedge?
What countries are you refering to here?
Getting a bit too cryptic for me........

    ....

To cherrypick one particular point here, 'cos this has been
done to death so it's not worth dancing-around again ...
but I think this is worth pointing-out to you, as it doesn't
seem to be something that's occurred to you.
The death-&-injury-versus-speed studies that have been done
(ignoring the dodgy-stats propaganda stuff) tend to show
that the extra physical damage done when you _do_ hit
something at a higher speed is more than made up for by the
reduced number of vehicles that hit each other when they're
doing an appropriate speed. eg. you may get twice as many
injuries when vehicles collide, but vehicles collide a
    quarter as often.
It really is a case of preferring to hit _nothing_, rather
than hitting something at a lower speed.

Anyway, enough of the intervention of reality; I return you
    two to your argument. :)

You're kidding. Even my 19-aged-horses-having-siesta MZ with sidehack
    can do 60 no problem.

Ahh no Kimbo, poor logic - just because whacking thousands of fixed and mobile
cameras on the roads, bombarding us with idiotic ads and doubling the points and
$s associated with being caught speeding has failed to decrease the road toll,
doesn't mean that doing even more of this pointless exercise is going to
*increase* the road toll further. In the same way that flapping your arms has
absolutely no effect on whether the 747 takes off, this whole over policing of
speed has no impact on the road toll.

Yeah, well, Sideney isn't all there is to this beautiful , progressive,
forward state. More a dumping ground for middle-eastern/asian thugs and
outcasts. :-( I lived there for 30 years and I'm not adding to that
    total I can assure you.

Bathurst is the closest I'll ever get to Sydney, and even this is too close! But I can't move any further away until I'm
done with uni at the end of the year, unfortunately.
