Its now 2 am, I should be going to sleep but am wide awake with anger
    and disgust.

Driving north on Taren Point Road (Sydney) a straight, empty 3 lane
each way wide piece of road at 1 am. There are hundreds of metres of
empty parking space and almost no cars parked on the south-heading
side of the road. Yet, I spy a marked police car parked no more than 2
feet infront of a large removal style van. For a person heading south,
this van completeley blocks the cop car until you pass it.

I stop my car whilst heading north in a carpark opposite the cops and
take a photo of this scene from across the road with a flash. Whilst
leaving the car park they turn on their side light pointing straight
    into my eyes.

Once I stopped the car safley further down the road, I went for a walk
to have a chat with these cops sitting in their nice warm car. about 5
    mins conversation in all...

I wont bore you with all the details but here are the main points.

I was amicable and did not swear or shout I addressed them as maam and
    sir.
I asked them why they were parked in front of the truck when they had
hundreds of metres of space to park.
The refused to comment on their parking spot or move forward when I
    suggested this to them.
When questioned as to how this was helping road saftey they became
    defensive
I commented that it was a disgrace and it could only lead to public
    distrust of the police.
They stated that they had been given this task. I asked if they had
been specifically commanded to park in front of a parked truck that
hid them. They refused to comment. and said I can make a complaint if
    I wanted.
They refused to provide any identifying details to me stating that as
I had taken the photo, I should use this to complain.
The cop in the drivers seat basically refused to talk to me as I was
    "distracting" him... FROM WHAT????

Once they became defensive and made it clear that I should complain
somehow, I took about 3 or 4 more photos of them and their position
from various angles and then drove off.

This blatant revenue raising cannot continue. What would be the best
way to get this to the attention of people that matter? a letter (and
photos) to the newspapers? the head of cops? The bloke in canberra?

Your suggestions are welcome, I'm getting the photos developed
    tomorrow (Tuesday)

I like to address them as officer and officeress. That really shits them.
Would make my day to see someone put a bullet in their fuel tank and nuke
them when they are so blatant. Pig on the spit if you will.

Aren't cops legally required to identify themselves when such a request is made? Worth taking the complaint to higher
    levels for that reason alone.

Can NOT agree with your repulsive latter suggestions. Maybe a sick attempt at humour.

They are doing their job, they are working within policy and guidelines set down.

Take issue with the system, not make it personal and vindictive.

May I suggest you make a webpage with the photos you took, I certainly
would like to see these images you took.

Oh BTW - GOOD WORK!! Great to see people standing up to police that have
nothing more than a revenue rasing agenda

They've parked legally in a marked police car on the side of the road.
Bastards! Why can't they just stick to lurking in the bushes with wheelie
    bin speed cameras.

Go straight to the papers when you get your photos developed, they'll be on
    Wednesday's front page for sure.

Or you could find something better to do with your Saturday nights.

    I agree with Alx..

Nowhere does it say that the police car must be parked somewhere where
it can be seen for at least 100 metres to oncoming traffic.
Some people believe in proactive policing (being highly visible) and
some others just believe the offenders will only speed up again once
they around the corner. If you never know where they are, your speed
will remain legal more often as you never know when and where they
    will be.

Then again, if you never do anything wrong, you've got nothing to
    worry about have you?

And me? A do gooder? Hell no, but I am reponsible enough to know that
if I take the gamble, sometimes I'm lucky, and sometimes I'm not....

Of course cameras are revenue raising, and so are parking tickets, but
without them, who pays for the crime fighting and the local libaries
(not to mention wheel chair access on footpaths etc for when you wind
up in a wheel cahir because somebody was speeding, or going through a
red light has slammed into you...

I agree, there is such a thing as safe speeding, but seriously, with
all the ad's of double demerit points playing, who would be stupid
enough to try at the moment?

Oh, and when was the last time a policeman pulled over and abused you
    for doing your job?

  20. If by "nowhere", you mean "the cops' own operating procedures", then you are
    correct.
Hmmm, looks like those record amounts governments Australia-wide are
spending on public-relations consultants_are_paying off... after all, it's
not like someone could be swallowing and then willingly regurgitating this
sort of tripe just on account of being a simpleton, is it?
As a matter of fact, February last year, when I was working as a bike
courier... lost count of the number of times they did it while I was a pizza
    dood.
