Phillip Island Race Track Sale and anti-race groups

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Martin Taylor, Feb 25, 2004.

  1. Now that the PI circuit has been sold to Lindsay Fox, a local
conservation mob has sprung up urging less motor racing there.

Another Save Albert Park wannabe mob by the looks of it.

Might donate the woman a box of earplugs (I'm sure that work wouldn't
    mind "donating" them...)

Gee.. I wonder if that's so he can be "forced" to close it down and
    redevelop the site?

...but he could only do that if the council approved of his plans... and since
usage of the track generates a huge income for Phillip Island (the blurb says
the track operates about 250 days per year) chances of them allowing him to
redevelop the site are probably fairly minimal.

.... unless a resort was expected to generate a larger revenue.

  5. Yes, you can just see all the shite weather afficionados flocking to spend a
    long weekend there.

So lets just say they close down the track. Where are the bike riders going
to? Answer is the road. Now you have a higher road toll and have more bike
in the mountains doing twisty roads scaring wildlife. That's so MUCH better
for the environment. Dickheads. Some people need to look at the bigger
    picture.

    Redevelop for housing?

Where would he find enough people willing to live where the track is?
    Siberia? [1]

  9. Yes, but people drive out there, polish off an ice cream before the wind
either blows it away of freezes it sold, duck inside a pizza shop to thaw
out, then drive out to where the penguins waddle ashore, go "Awwwwww...",
and then promply **** off before it gets dark. They don't stick around for
any real length of time, mostly, do they?

Ultimately, Phillip Island is a wind-blown, featureless, pancake-flat bit of
ground sticking out of a frigid bay off Bass Straight. Who in their right
mind would go to spend a significant amount of time there if there wasn't
    any bike racing to watch?

    I doubt it! (I know I know; it's just a troll)
Motorcycle crashes and stupid behaviour goes up on GP/Supers weekends.

What does he care? Contrary to popular belief, developers are not in it to
make the world a better place.

    Answer is the road.

into this to get bikes off the road?? Some people need to open their
    eyes, let alone any pictures

Which is probably why most people live and holiday on the north (sheltered)

Why does everyone automatically assume he's going to close the track down ?

Heh. As if they give a rat's arse about "the environment". These are
the same kind of people who cheaply buy old warehouses next to
factories to convert into studio apartments, then whinge and moan
until the factories get forced to shut down.

There's more to punctuation than question marks, you know (or should know),
    the occasional comma notwithstanding.

Well, he did his best to make Portsea a better place!

Fenced off a public beach, hovered his helicopter around to cheese the
neighbours off, built a multi-storey home on public beach and called it his
    boat-house.

What do you peasants want? Everyone to be treated equal?
