Toby and Julian have covered this many times on Eurosport. A lot of
the top riders use their knees for feel in the corners, and when
riding in the wet they don't want as much lean, but still want the
feel, so they use thicker sliders, or 2 sliders joined together.

  5. I dunno - right place, right time, lots of practice and luck.
Notice there are four or five snappers - and a lot, a helluva lot - of
    shite pics you don't see.

Decent, I thought but notice the dust on #13? You'd think he'd have
taken the trouble to clean it up a bit. Also, subject's not especially
    sharp.

In other words the photographer is a pro rather than a talented
    amateur.

  10. Yes and no. There were doubtless plenty of talented amateurs at that
meeting that could have (and probably did, although we don't see those
results) turned out that lot, but doing it consistently day after
fecking day when there's some **** muttering at you on the phone is a
    different ballgame.
There's a cracking article about Sports Illustrated photogs at a game in
the States and how the workflow progresses now. The shite /good pics
    ratio is incredible now.

Here's some handy starting points for sports shooting with various cams,
a litte OOD, but still good.

Something I've always wondered: when most camera gear is black-ish, why
do the stupidly big lenses tend to be white?

  13. Partly show-off and partly heat reflectance. Of the two, the latter is
more important for those who care about such things as image quality,
    the former for, well, show-offs.
