PGP Users?

Are there any PGP users left here after all the machinations of the
    commercialisation of the product?

Wondering if anyone uses the CKT 08/09 builds and have they been found
reliable in terms of data/disk encryption.
I have a new 4GB USB drive and given all I'm going to carry on it, better be
secure. My old version of PGP doesn't run past W2K.

The PGP ng's appear to be meaningless spam and loony bins unfortunately.

Strictly speaking? I suppose not. I use GPG instead, which I either use
for long term storage of sensitive data, or for email via the
    Thunderbird's Enigmail plugin where I can't use S/MIME.
I use TrueCrypt for this. I've used a number of products in this area,
and TrueCrypt stands out. I created a "Traveller Disk" for my USB stick,
which basically installs the program onto the USB, with an autorun. You
then create an encrypted volume on the remaining space, and jobs done.

It's not perfect, as you plug the stick in, which takes up one drive
letter, and then you enter your passphrase to mount the volume, which
takes up another driver letter. It doesn't really bother me though.

There are a few more features in there, which are nice.

Well I installed .08 of CKT on this XP lappy and PGP Disk appears to be
working fine on the USB flashdrive. So a nice new 4GB Disgo pen (1) now has
a proper backup of all my files and SyncBack will keep it that way (2).

    Something of a relief as
    a) work just got a bit more portable
    b) my naked arse has been hanging out in cold air for several months due to
    laziness

    (1) £36 for 4GB of portable media, what a wonderful world
    (2) and it is on my keyring with the apartment and office keys so it should
always leave the house with me (non yale) and leave the office with me (non
    yale).

Do you need to have anything installed on the host computers to access
your USB drive? I've got a 120gb USB HDD that I probably should
encrypt, but everything on it is Portable[1]. This means it just works
    whatever I plug it into.

You can create a "self decrypting archive"
it looks like a big .exe file.

Ah. So you can't for instance PGP-ify the entire drive, plug it into
another computer, enter a password and then the drive works?

Umm well yes thats kinda how it works. Apply it to a folder you have created
on the device. You run the exe, it asks you for the password, it opens up.
You can run apps from usb so I guess you might just run a client from there
    too.

I suppose it could be worth a look then. Let me know if it still works
    in a week or two.

I use TrueCrypt for this very reason. It's open source, and still being
    actively developed.

  16. Sheesh, I paid £17 for a 4GB PNY USB-stick a few weeks ago.

OTOH, last Sunday I opened up my new PC to replace the 2 GB of
533 MHz DDR RAM with 2 GB of 667 MHz DDR-II ram and found the box actually
contained -- 2 GB of 667 MHz DDR-II RAM... Cheap RAM if anyone wants it,
unless I buy a new motherboard too. :-(
