the fuel tank on my bike is painted metallic white. It's nw got a few
small yellowish-brown stains around the filler opening from petrol
    spillage.

Is there a nifty way of removing said stains? I am loathe to use
    cutting polish for obvious reasons.

    Brains trust?

    Eeeewe gross!
Sure its from petrol spillage. ;-)

Try a heat gun, oxy or grinder.

    Dont forget to fill up!

The stains won't come out. Monica and Bill know that.

If you rub it then it just makes more stains.

  6. The petrol has probably eaten the clearcoat.

First off try and find a cutting polish that specifically says it is
    for clearcoat and use that.

If you can't find a clearcoat cutter than a good quality cutting
    polish might do it.

I think there are wax polishes now with some colour in them so after
using the cutting polish try a good coloured wax polish.

If the stains have been there a while then your chances of removing
them are minimal alas as the petrol will have eaten the clear coat and
the colour is dirt on the paint.

There appear to be no signs of the clearcoat having been eaten.

Genty gave it a bit of a rub with Kitten No2 and that removed the
    stains.

I take it a 'clearcoat cutter' is what I need to get. Available at
bikeshops, Supercheapauto, Scotts Auto 1, etc?

Coloured polish? What'll they think of next?

I fail to see how the bike manufacturer is responsible for the stains
caused by the petrol. Are you suggesting that Hyosung are the only
bikes whose light-coloured paint jobs are stained by petrol?

And if we're talking warranty, that would be with the Aust distributor
wouldn't it? Hyosung would be nicely shielded behind a massive legal
firewall, no? Isn't that how modern corporate criminals work?

    I tell ya,the revolution's WAY overdue... ;-)

So your saying that all bikes <3mths old paint is this fucked with a bit
of petrol spilt on it? I'd say the paint on your thing is shit quality.

The only issue I've ever had with paint on ~45 bikes was on that shitbox
shitcati, and that paint fell off using the bikewash that frasers sold me...
they replaced it all no question.. that was warranty claim #19 from memory.

wouldn't it? Hyosung would be nicely shielded behind a massive legal firewall,
    no?
I'd highly doubt it.. surely your expectation would be a touch more than
paint lasting 3mths, or you'd buy it in bare metal with clear on it.
But if thats the quality your happy with - good luck on how the whole thing
    will lookin a year.

No. I was asking a question (which I think you have answered forther
    down the emssage.)
Well I've heard of a few complaints about petrol staining paintwork,
so I'll wait to see if there's any more feeedback from the rest of the
brains trust before acting on your comment. No offence...
Do I detect a somewhat anti-Hyosung bias in the tone of your message?

I hope you're wrong, but your comments are noted and more advice is
    sought.

I've spilt petrol a few times filling up. No stains but I always clean
    up any spills immediately.

I suspect your paint may be a little on the cheapest bidder side of
good. You don't always get what you pay for, but you almost never get
    more.

I managed to polish it off. And thanks to Zebee's advice, I now own
Mother's clearcoat-safe cleaning polish. We'll see what the future
    brings.

Worst case, somewhere down the track I can always spray the whole bike
in heat-proof matt black and make it a rat bike with graffiti on the
    tank... No problemo. ;-)
