I paid $1.45/l for BP Ultimate tonight. O don't think I have ever
spent over $25 filling the tank before, even out on the Nullabor.

We pay NZ$1-60 per litre for 96 actane. 91 octane is $1-47 a litre.
    Convert that to ozz dollars.

Too obvious. To save on tyre wear the WA Ducati Club trucked their bikes to
Adelaide, they fly there, pick up bikes and ride to the Supers from there.
They did this several years in a row.

i thought that was due to difficulties of fixing bikes on the nullabor?
you're a bastard if you leave your mates on the most isolated road in
the world purely because they are stupid enough to attempt to ride a
    duck any distance.

Contrary to popular myth, Ducatis can and do cross the Nullarbor without
breaking down. I have done the return trip solo on the Guzzi six or seven
times (lost count). Last time the Ducati Club went they flew to Melbourne
    and hired a van.

And here I am working overtime to ready the Pig for a trip south next
year. Two sets of tyres, oil 'n filters, new riding clobber, new
    Bagster, etc...

But I wouldn't do it their way for quids. Lots of quids.

Well they ain't subsidising it too well 1000km south-east of Mt Isa at the
    state capital, Brisbane!
    It's about 5cpl dearer at $1.20-ish here.

Good in theory, but total crap in practice. Any retailer who wants to be in
business for more than a day will charge as much as he can get away with -
what the market will bear. Absolutely no relationship with cost.

FIFO is a stock costing system. Nothing to do with setting a PRICE. but hey,
literacy or lack thereof was never a pre-requiste for flogging petrol .

Seeing how it's $1.39 here in the national capital, one could argue
they're not making too bad a fist of it.

  18. What does it do on the highway? I just checked mine after a tune up and got
11.2l/100kms from the 17 y.o. 350 Chev at legal speeds (which is entirely
    not indicative of average anything!).

  19. Which is substantially better that my 39yo 3.4 litre Jag which seems to
peak at about 14.1 l/100km (20mpg). But today I got the overdrive working
again, with new plugs and timing set correctly again, perhaps it will now
only cost twice as much as the TDM to get to work.

She's getting the engine rebuilt very soon now, 2 litres of oil a week is
    getting a bit much.

You need Lpg you do , 420G on lpg returns 16 liters/100 ( with custom
    inlet manifold)
the xjs/12 with gas injection returns around 14 liters of gas...
    2 liters a week of oil ?
    ouch
needs a few bits I think
