Petrol prices in France...

I've just heard on the news tonight, that petrol stations are going to
be obliged to display their petrol prices on a nationwide government
    d'base.

    Apparently it's at :
    www.prix-carburant.gouv.fr

(maybe www.prixcarburant.com/ too, but the former URL was the one shown
    on the news).

Needless to say both sites are either down or pig slow as everyone in
France are accessing the sites at the moment. However it's supposed to
be easy to navigate and figure out the cheapest prices. The idea is to
increase petrol station competition (As the French government can't
influence world prices and don't want to lower petrol taxes).

As an aside, whilst searching for the sites, I came across a similar
site in Belgium (which may be a public (i.e. non-government site).

    http://www.carbu.be/home.php

    Have fun.

Nice, but it's not a governmental site, is it? Over here, stations can
be fined if they don't provide prices and if they're not correct
    prices. Apparently.

No it's not, the data is aggregated from petrol card users and tends to
be a tad out of date for at least several of the stations down here.

And you have to join to actually get any useful info, too.

Once I've given them my details, which they can then sell for a nice
    profit.

I didn't say receiving E-mail SPAM, though, I said selling my details.

What, one poor bugger running on fumes in the middle of nowhere on the
way back from a UKRM French run.

That'll usually be me, that will.

That reminds me, I must sling a 5 litre can of unleaded into the trailer
    of the TOGTour.

I'll either use it, or get a fiver a litre for it...

Obviously, you'll sling the can in the trailer but won't fill it until
you're in the cheap petrol Euro-zone.

    Eh? Oh yes.

    Obviously.

    Unless it's a Sunday.

Actually, I'll probably fill up somewhere on the way to the hotel, then
hang around a while for Champ to catch up.

I'd better give him a head start from the petrol station this time
though, he gets very upset if I arrive at the hotel before him.
