It is difficult for many people to get a 'feel' for litres as it is
    for many metric measurements.
Most imperial measurements come in convienient sizes
that 'fit' the product, with the 'numbers' being in a range of
    1-10 or 1-20.
People prefer to work in number ranges they can count on their
    fingers (or toes sometimes).
    A 49 litre tank is a non-starter.
Nobody ever bought a litre of petrol, it would not get you
    off the garage forecourt

    regards half_pint.

Rubbish, according to the FIA Foundation, for every £1 collected in road/fuel
tax, the following are spent on roads

    Japan £1.50
    US/Canada £1
    Germany 72p
    France 50p
    Italy 35p
    UK 20p
Rubbish. I've driven all over the US, never saw anything as bad as our excuse
    for a road system...

    Not for years.

It is an utter myth about the need to be cold wet and uncomfortable if
you wear modern motorcycle clothing. It still remains an excuse to get
you labelled a pansy foo foo wuss though,

The whole point of a fitted kitchen is that it is fitted, i.e. made to fit
the space that is available, whether it is 10 feet long or 3.048 metres
    long.

I reckon that this is a more realistic measure although it could be
    And very much wetter.

Who's this 'every one' that you are talking about?

I want to know the price in litres, just because you live in the past
    doesn't mean 'every one' does.

  11. They have some kit out there, for some years I believe they have stuff
in a moving police car that can register speed and snap, oncoming
cars. Dunno if they have that over here.

Traps are nothing generally to do with safety, they just find a place
where they can nick the most motorists even if it is in the middle of
    nowhere.

I was driving my sisters car over there , so behaved, but must admit
when I got back here, I floored my car just for a bit, just for the
    hell of it.

  12. No, because a US pint isn't the same as a UK pint...

    Nor is a fluid oz.

And petrol is sold in litres anyway.

I presume the restraining is done with the aid of a straitjacket?

Total disbursements for highways are expected to be $126.2 billion in 2001,
an increase of almost 17 percent over 1998, which is the latest year for
which final numbers are available. Total revenues used for highways or
placed in reserves for highways are expected to reach $128 billion in 2001.
The difference ($1.8 billion) is due to changes in the amount total
reserve -$2.4 billion placed in reserve by the Federal government and $.6
billion drawn from reserve by State and Local governments.
Total highway-user revenues of $106.2 billion (motor fuel, motor vehicle
taxes and fees and tolls) are anticipated in 2001, which would fund about 84
percent of all highway disbursements. However, $12.8 billion of highway-user
revenues are destined for general government use, collection expenses and
other non-highway uses, while $11.6 billion will be used for mass
transportation. Consequently, only $81.8 billion or 77 percent of taxes and
fees charged to road users are expected to be applied to the highway
programs of Federal, State and local governments.

That would cost the oil Co.s a lot more, it's tax payers cash he is spending attacking
Iraq and his pockets the oil industry that's lining his pockets.

Piss-taking aside, I'd rather have an Astra than a Vectra, but I don't
have a choice. And it's not a new car anyway, I inherited it from
    someone who was made redundant.
