Peter Garrett too famous to vote?

Well that's apparently what he thought.

Garrett's record a blow for Latham

PETER Garrett has been a serial vote-dodger for almost a decade,
according to Australian Electoral Commission records.

The revelation is a huge embarrassment to Opposition Leader Mark Latham,
who has put his leadership on the line to preselect the Midnight Oil
lead singer for a safe Sydney seat and install him in federal
    Parliament.
The electoral commission has no record of the Labor Party's star recruit
voting in the past three federal elections, or in the referendum on the
    republic.

Mr Latham's office confirmed last night that a check on Mr Garrett's
status on the roll had come up as "uncertain" and that he had been asked
to fill out a fresh enrolment form yesterday.

A spokesman for the Opposition Leader said Mr Garrett may have been
    touring overseas during some elections.

However, there has been no Peter Robert Garrett on the commission's
    master roll since 1994.

The 51-year-old millionaire lives in a country mansion in the NSW
Southern Highlands, but has not enrolled to vote since he moved from the
Sydney northern beaches suburb of Balgowlah.

Mr Garrett could not be contacted last night.

The AEC permits certain high-profile Australians and others such as
police, judges and politicians to have their addresses suppressed for
    security reasons.

For example, the names of Treasurer Peter Costello and Mark Latham are
on the public electoral roll, but where their residences would normally
appear, the AEC writes "address suppressed".

Mr Garrett has not applied for any exemption because his name is not on
    the roll.

Garrett's wife, Doris Ricono-Garrett, is also not on the roll.

The only Doris Garrett on the electoral roll is a 92-year-old woman from
Wauchope in northern New South Wales.

Under Section 101 of the Electoral Act, a court can impose a fine of not
more than $50 for a refusal to enrol.

There is also a $20 penalty for a failure to vote, which can blow out to
$50 if the person refuses to pay the fine.

The NSW branch of the party met yesterday to consider the urgent
application for Mr Garrett and voted unanimously to have the national
    executive determine the issue tomorrow.

The decision overrides the wishes of the local branches, who want to
preselect a local candidate for the seat of Kingsford Smith, being
vacated by Laurie Brereton at the next election.

Poor old Ron; you're about as conversant with local politics as you are with
    world politics aren't you?
A Labor person is a RED. Totally the opposite of a redneck.
A redneck is a slow-witted person, generally from a rural background, and
with strong ultra-conservative (but generally ill-thought-out) opinions.

    I think there's a picture of one here;

Redneck is a term from the American south. It is a racist term syonymous the
the infamou "n" word used to degrade Blacks.

Hate mongers who hate white people often call people rednecks when they do
    not support marxist lies.

  11. Hippies like Garrett will be right at the forefront of the move to ban 4WDs,
impose Deutch-Green like "speed kills mother Earth" mentality.

The fool once stood for Parliament on a "Nuclear Disarmament Party" ticket -
in a nation that has no nuclear weapons.

What more do you need to know about him?

and screamed his brain out (hang on, was that his "singing") about Pine Gap.
Now he's all cool with the Gap base. Strange how committed he claimed to be,
but a safe seat has bought him lock stock and barrel. Any greenies who vote for
him under his new banner will have been well and truly conned.

And if the Kingsford-Smith party faithful don't want him over a "local"
candidate, they should run their local choice against him as an independent Lab
candidate with a preference swap deal with the Lib candidate. That'd fark
Latham and the rich ex-greenie nicely.

Now *that* is an excellent idea. If you are near the Kingsford-Smith office
give them a ring and suggest it. That really would put the spanner in the
    works. Excellent. Stay around.

Nah, it's STD from here (Perth). But there MUST be someone out there with the
K-S area just a local call away. Feel free to claim it all as your own idea.
