Running is much easier than backing up your assertions with some sort of facts or quotes, isn't it, Don? Doesn't make you look very credible, though. That's okay, I knew you were just parroting bu$h's silly war mongering lies. We know Iraq did all it was asked by the U.N., and the weapons inspectors were pleased with Iraq's cooperation. He did in fact massacre thousands of civilians in 1988 and 1991. Was that the urgent reason for an invasion in 2003 ? Did you have anything more recent in mind ? Also, re his deceit of the UN weapons inspectors, did he deceive them by concealing WMDs or what ? Just trying to understand these reasons you mention.
"Hank" Hank, This is about the fourth time you've used this phrase, even though you know it's not 100% correct. I never said that Iraq was in 'full compliance' with U.N. resolution 1441, yet you claim I did. What aspect of that simple fact do you find confusing, Vic? ;-> - The entire 90 post thread is available here: http://groups-beta.google.com/group...=1&q=UN+resolution+vic&hl=en#4a7770a80b632c97 As you did in March, you've taken one line of one paragraph, from a 15 page document that hapens to support your point, while ignoreing the rest of the document. Nice try, but just like last time, it's not going to work if anyone cares enough to look at the whole report (as you obviously did back in March) when you backed off your statement about 'full compliance'.
‘‘We no longer live in a world where only the actual firing of weapons represents a sufficient challenge to a nation’s security to constitute maximum peril,’’ ‘‘Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles are so swift, that any substantially increased possibility of their use or any sudden change in their deployment may well be regarded as a definite threat to peace.’’ John F. Kennedy during the Cuban missile crisis (1962) ‘‘And mark my words, he will develop weapons of mass destruction. He will deploy them, and he will use them’’ -- President Clinton, Dec. 16, 1998). "But most Americans understand that intelligence failures are not the same thing as lies... If intelligence failures are inevitable -- and in a world of human fallibility, they are -- we are better off worrying too much about our enemies and taking steps to defeat them than worrying too little and being caught, unready, when they attack. Worrying too much led the United States and Britain to topple a brutal tyrant. Worrying too little led to 9/11 and 7/7." Jeff Jacoby - The Boston Globe.

As always Mark, good advice. If this was a case of intelligence failure, I could go along with it, but it's not. There was never one iota of interest in the idea of weapons inspections in any way shape or form, nor was there ever any description of an acceptable inspection process, nor was there ever enough honesty to state that no inspection process was acceptable. I believe the administration might have been willing to settle for regime change, but never had the slightest interest in any Iraqi disarmament, even though this was presented as all about WMDs. I'm not a big fan of Saddam mind you, but this war was justified by out and out lying and I don't much like that. If they'd stuck to Afghanistan or made an honest case for Iraq, I'd feel differently. But they didn't.
