Mr. ER-5 has passed its MOT.

Rear brake is now fixed, new front tyre[1], handlebar no longer bent,
new fork seals full service and they even replaced my cable ties with
    new ones. £211.

It feels like a new bike.

[1] Front BT45 - the rear was replaced 2,000 miles ago. It handles so
much differently now and doesn't fall into corners. I didn't realise
that a new front tyre would change the feel so much.

Every time it has a service it feels like a new bike. Probably a
    Quality Control issue.

Maybe it should be serviced more if it's getting that bad between
    services?

I throw it in to be serviced at the mileage suggested by the manual so
I'm not sure. Does anyone else have an ER-5 or a GPZ500 that feels
    similar?

  6. In uk.rec.motorcycles, BGN amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
More like a rider control issue ;)

  7. Just remember what it feels like now and the cure that fixed it and take
an objective feel sometime in the next few months and wonder if there's
something simple you can do to regain the feel of it.

Tyres wear relatively slowly, so you get used to them as they go off.
Servicing generally makes the engine more responsive and crisper. Brakes
and suspension services [1] are usually ignored, but worth doing, as
they get knackered too with the passage of time.

[1] Changing fork oil and brake fluid, for example.

The immediate things that I notice is that the engine is more
responsive and the clutch biting point changes. I assume this is
because they adjust the throttle position (probably not the right
term) as now when I move it slightly it responds whereas before I
would have to move it about a centimetre before it would get higher
    revs.

Something else I noticed was starting it without having to use the
choke even though it was sitting in the freezing cold outside.
In addition to the engine being tinkered with the suspension was also
serviced (new fork oil, new seals) which makes the bike feel far
smoother. It's had four services now in the last 12,000 miles for
various bits and bobs but this service has had by far the most
    positive outcome.

Hmm. That last statement bothers me.
I'm doing the End to End run with BGN (and Sean and Scraggy) later this
    year.
I'm starting to get a wee bit concerned.
Am I going to spend a lot of time picking BGN out of ditches and such like?
Is it better to be in front of him or behind him?
    Advise please.
    :-D))

My GPZ500 hasn't had a service or even an oil change since 4/12/02. Mind
you, it has been off the road since March 03.

They have to survive tomorrow's mission first: to Leicester to collect
    Sean's GPZ....

When BGN was here, riding his ER5, he followed me, on my R-GS, for almost
all of the little jaunts we rode [1]. It was fun watching the mirrors to
see if he appeared from a corner in an upright or horizontal stylee. I was
quite impressed that he managed to miss the tractor with wide slicey thing
    [2] occupying 1.5 lanes.

[1] carefully worded in case of ambiguity
[2] some sort of harrow for the agritechs

The slightly bent fork clamps or something wasn't it?

I put a new bottom yoke on. The forks were straight, but wouldn't line
up with the top yoke when put through the bottom one. 20 quid later they
did. It has forks and wheels all fitted and straight, fairing/headlight
replaced, a brand new fuel tank, correct seat fitted, new footrests and
hangers, new handlebars, radiator, new clocks and a shitload of other
new bits. It's for sale as it is cos now I have the Bandit I really have
just lost interest and need a bit of cash to throw at the B6. It's
languishing in the back of my garage waiting for a new home.

Anyone want to make me a sensible offer?

P regd 1997 GPZ500S with later type twin disc front end, offers over 450
quid[1]. needs small amount of work and cash to finish. Engine can be
    heard running.

    [1] What it owes me.
