  1. Heh, not from my perspective, no.

Anyway size isn't really the problem, it's more to do with
    under-utilisation. :/

  4. Gears. Lots of 'em. And quite a lot of plastic to hide the big empty
    spaces (my bike weighs 146Kg).

It's interesting riding behind someone on a bigger-engined bike, they've
barely snicked it up into 3rd by the time I'm in 6th, throttle WFO,
gritting my teeth for all I'm worth.

I keep meaning to take a handheld GPS out on the bike and measure the
0-60. I am absolutely certain it would be under 10 seconds, which isn't
too shabby for such a tiny engine. 0-70 would be in the region of 20-30
seconds though - it really starts to run out of go at around 65.

Like the man said - gearing.

I ridded one of those a little while back, the one with the sails on the
front, sides and back. Green it was. I agree with you.

Or you can get a ZZR250 import.

  8. Interesting. Let us know what happens when/if you do this, because my
guess is it'll be over 10 seconds.

Might be OK up to 50, but in my experience, msot four-stroke 125s start
running out of puff once you get past 55mph and then just gather speed,
    rather than accelerate.

The late lamented CB125T - the full-power 17bhp predecessor of the
horrible Super Dream - was an exception. That bike was *amazingly* fast.

I always liked the look of the SRX600 and it was a fun thing to ride,
one of those 400's would be nice if it was available locally. Thanks,
I didn't know it came in the smaller engine size.

Because they make more than 33bhp, whereas the VTR appears to make
    32bhp?

and you don't get them for a grand

It was actually an official import way back when, before the 600 bandit. I
have ridden one and they are no worse then any other 400 , ie very revvy and
not that powerful. I'm guessing its uses most of the same parts as the 600
    but I could be wrong.

I didn't know such a thing existed until recently. Any idea what it's
    like to ride, looks ok.

    flash says...
I think they are significantly different. The frame and lots of the
running gear/bodywork certainly are. Engine-wise I'm not so sure if they
use a Gixer 400 engine, of which there are many types, or a unique
    design.

    I haven't lost my mind, it's
backed up to a floppy disc
    that's around here somewhere.

    No probs.
Wish I'd had the space and money to be able to keep mine as it was a lovely
    looking (and sounding) bike.

  20. Excellent - a challenge! That's given me just the motivation I need.
I'll have a go later in the week. I think I'll need to write a little
program to interpret the raw GPS data and turn it into a 0-60 time, but
    that shouldn't take too long.
Well, I'm quietly confident - I know exactly what you mean about
gathering speed rather than accelerating, but I reckon it will be good
up to 60. Dunno how much of a bearing it has, but I *think* Hyosung
changed the gearing from 5 speed to 6 at some point (at least, lots of
the specs I've seen list it as only having 5 gears), without affecting
the published top speed, so as long as I can change up quick enough I
reckon I'm in with a shout.
