    Hi Group,
Not sure if this is the right place to be. I'm trying to find people and
resources for classic BMW R bikes. I would appreciate any help with some
    contacts.

    Thanks again

I don't know much about the Austin BMW scene, but Boxerworks has a good
message forum for R bike questions. I'll bet you can find what you're
looking for by asking around in the general BMW discussion.

Well I have a few. 68 Moto Guzzi Ambassador that I am working on now.
a BMW R50/5 that I put together from parts in a box (bought on eBay).
The BMW is great for zipping around this town. Even in the 100+ degree heat
I would rather be on two wheels than four. Unfortunately while rebuilding
the forks I realized that somebody who owned it previously torqued down the
slider bolt so it sheared off. the dampening rod end bolt. I have a
place in Ohio that I ordered it from but would love to have a club resources
here in Austin. The third bike is a 52 HD wishbone frame, rolling chassis
with all the tabs. I'm not really a Harley guy so that will probably get
    sold.

  6. The ambassador is gonna be very cool when you get it done.

there is a very good mailing list for /5 resources, you may already know
    it.

several very good tech types on there and parts sources.
strictly tech discussion on that list and moderated, but the best list
for /5s, followed by the airheads list. I wrote a little of the original
FAQ for /5 years ago, but haven't done much in recent years, busy
    elsewhere.
i got a copy of the /5 parts book and exploded diagrams thru there and
the current faq is deep and accurate. ask Duane about the forks on that
list. you will get replies from several folks.

what year is the /5, ie short or long frame ?
in awestin, the best thing i could think of for classics would be the
RoadRunners group which is more brit centric and covers all old euro
bikes, and Lone Star would know more about that area for bmw.

there is a more social list for /5 that has some tech info but a lot of
    general chatter too.
    (the Black Sheep list)

fwiw, my toaster tag is tx classic mc SLASH5
