Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Mayfield, Jan 12, 2004.

  1. Takes 3 weeks for parts to get here from Japan.

    FUGGIN FUGGIN FUGGIN.

Looks like I'm riding the GPX for the next 3 weeks or so.

About 2 years ago we had to get a part for our 4 wheel drive tractor from
    Japan, it took 4 months.

If it makes you feel any better, I used to work for the guy who fixed "Case"
tractors in Kununurra, WA (far north-east Kimberley). We used to be able
to get *anything* from Case in the USA to Kununurra in 36-48 hours. One
time the "part" needed to be dismantled and shipped in 2 containers :) DHL
were great! :p The bill for the shipping was (a lot) more than the part,
but when you've got a coupla hundred acres to harvest, time is indeed
    money.

Japan OTOH - they do *everything* different up there. I have to manage an
I.T. Department in Tokyo and fark me if I say it's black, they say it's
white! Even if every other I.T. mangler in our company says it's black
those <Japanese racist sterotypes> say it's white!! They are the bane of
my existance :( Hope they don't ask for your first-born when the freight
    bill comes in.

    That's a crock.

The dealers won't air-freight as they haven't been taught how to properly
service customers, and also fear that a: the customer won't pay freight
(This is why they all refuse to call you when the part does finally arrive-
costs too much) and b: then everybody will expect it.

I refer to my comments in the past about the state of Australian motorcycle
industry (parts and service). every dealer that has pulled their heads in
and given service has been rewarded. There is this 'old boys club' in the
Australian motorcycle industry that is keeping margins up (ever seen a
shitty old ute towing a dealer's race bikes?). The ignorance of brain-dead
counter staff is testament to this.

I have worked in the earthmoving service industry all my life and find a lot
of parts come in (and the turn over, etc is the same) for a decent margin.
    C'mon dealers, fess up.

  7. Yeah I waited 7 weeks for a part from my dealer then when I went to pick it
up, found out the assistant had failed to order it. Bike ended up being in
shop for 4 months.... haven't dealt with the shop since (Red Baron
Liverpool) and with current bike I ordered an original tank bag when I
ordered the bike 24/4/03...only found out today that the manufacturer in
France didn't produce it at all, cancelled all orders and failed to notify
Yamaha.... end result am Getting a colour matched Bagster in lieu.

Yeah, I wish too! The fact is that it's more than possible in this era. They
can log the part request on the computer, goes straight to Yamaha, Honda,
Suzuki Australia etc, and then if it's urgent they can air freight the part
across (along with every else urgent) to Australia. Even with a conservative
shipping method it would only take 4 or 5 days. It's more than possible,
just that they don't have a fucken clue about service and perhaps they have
problems in Japan with the parts warehousing (along with Australia!). I know
even a lowly sumbag company like us can get an order before 3pm one day and
have it air freight to your door the next day no problems. It's all far too
simple I'm afraid. Bike Dealer ... service ... what .. surely not!

  9. Should be able to be. (And probably would be if I whinged enough and offered
to pay ridiculous amounts for air freight.)

  10. To be fair, the dealer in question (Parramatta Kawasaki) are very good and
    apologised about it profusely etc.

The problem is on the end of Kawasaki Australia (or possibly further up the
chain, as KA get parts to PK on the same day if I order by midday and they
    have it in stock).

  12. When I read the first sentence of your post, I was expecting the second
sentence to be about how lucky I was to be able to ride a GPX around for the
    next 3 weeks. ;-)

  13. Could also be that, if the part's for a bike that was last manufactured 15
years ago, the Kawasaki factory will have to knock one up specifically for
the order (that's how it, apparently, worked for a headlight/instrument
bracket I once had to order for my FZR600), and need to find a slot for it
    in the production schedule.

Also, if the part's some trifiling $80 widget, who in their right mind would
pay another $40 in express shipping for it if the alternative was to wait
for it to get bunged in with the next bulk shipment of parts from Japan and
    pay nothing?

It'd help if we knew what the part was, too...

    Hi!
My snowmobile (Suzuki engine) dealer told me the same thing.
Got it in 5 days by USPS Global Priority Mail from a US dealer.
Total price: almost half the Aus dealer price inc postage.
Just look for a dealer and email them. Maybe it's the tipping culture, but
the Americans have heard of service.
    Regards,
    Don.

    months, and some!

Shibaura (i think that is the correct spelling). Things break on that
tractor faster than you can fix the old problems. That piece from Japan was
some sort of disk that went in the front wheel, about a foot across, an inch
or two thick and it snapped in half. It wasnt the first time either.

  19. Parts are....

Rear wheel hub inner sleeve, ZX10.

Rear wheel hub inner sleeve, GPX250.

Front wheel hub inner sleeve, GPX250.

Funnily enough, the front wheel one for the ZX10 was in stock.

  20. Used to have the same sort of problems with Kubotas. Don't really think the
Japanese know how to make good tractors.
