  1. Now, from most posters, the phrase meatspace doesn't work. But
    it's so *you*

TBH that crazy 'Merkin, the hacking and the firebombing pretty much levelled
    the pitch IMHO )
If *any* of it ever happened that is. <fx:checks pocketwatch>

  4. heh. It's good to see you getting back to the cyberpunk roots
after what - to me - seemed like a brief stint as a computer-literate
    Dirk Gently.

You missed an opportunity to call him Brenda, there.

Most of us who know Bear's RL name are also aware that he doesn't want
it used online. If someone posts as (insert name of forest animal),
surely it's only polite to refer to them by that name. Just because you
know something doesn't mean you have to post it. I know things about
several ukrmers[1] that would cause widespread amusement or considerable
shock (or both) that I don't allude to in any way, shape or form -
partly because I make enemies by design, not accident, but mostly
because it's just not the done thing. For instance, TOG stopped using
his real name online for very good reasons, and IIRC asked people to do
the same. To continue to use it in disregard of such a request is the
    act of a ****.

So, Bear doesn't like his RL name used. You use it "because it's just
what I do", but in the middle of a slanging match? Riiiight.
    Disingenuous to say the least.

[1]Mostly, you *don't know who you are. And as long as the payments
keep coming, you never will. Heh...

Online in public I can understand. He went off on one at someone who
used it in a private channel IRC conversation. Go figure.
Bear used TOG's real name fairly recently on UKRM. He surely can't have
    it both ways.

No. I mean it sounded like Will was talking about Des, but I thought

Oh never mind, it can't have been important.

Heh, I once got asked 'quelle departemente' I was from while hitch hiking
    in southern France.[1]

    "Departemente Yorkshire" I replied.

Naah, they were more interested in Bonners' naked stunting...

which fortunately didn't happen, as he came over all sensible when he
got back to the hotel. Either that or he had to go to his room to get
the key and wasn't allowed out again...

Heh. Of course, once I say I live in Alsace my crap accent is
generally accepted. The worst thing round here is when, on the phone
to a shop or something, someone notices me struggling with some
technical french, assumes I'm a german speaker and lapses into bloody
    alsacien.

    That _really_ pisses me off.
