    Good evening.

The DVLA website isn't helpful on this one, but how would early
Parkinson's Disease symptoms be looked upon by the DVLA? Would
motorcycle riding be automatically banned, or would modification (ie.
trike/side car or summut) overcome this?

    Thanks for your advice.

Eek. I hope you're asking on someone else's behalf.

If my mate is anything to go by, they look upon it as a kind of "self
reporting" thing. If he's having a good day, he drives. If he's having a
bad day, he drives anyway. But he's not supposed to. ;^)

**** nose but it ain't an issue for the DVLA. The twitching is
perfectly normal for someone who has been around here for a couple of
months. It is your primal back brain fighting a losing battle with
    ukrm.

It'll pass, you *will* be assimilated.

Unfortunatly not. I've having a selection of tests next month to
'rule out' Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. The odds of having it at
24 are quite staggering, but my doctor has just linked up some tests I
had (balance related - originally thought to be an inner-ear thing
relating to a perforated eardrum when my head slammed into the road)
after a motorcycle accident in April with some other things that I
reported a few years before with tremor/minor paralasis and memory
    loss.
Fantastic. Just what I was looking for! The prospect of never riding
again wasn't one that I Would Not entertain.

OK, as you say the odds are hugely against, but that's not going to stop
you worrying. Good luck with this. And tell the DVLA *nothing* until you
    are certain.

I shall officially cross my fingers on your behalf.
    Good man.

I don't work for the NHS any more, but I used to work for the Walton
Centre for Neuorlogy and Neurosurgery, Dr. Malcolm Steiger is the man
there for Parkinson's, I'll ask my mate who is still there what the
protocol might be regarding this. Oh, I know that there are a lot of
places darn sarf that cover this sort of condition, but Dr. Steiger is
supposed to be very good in the field of Parkinson's disease, it might
be worth looking into a referral?

  11. Not well. However my dad voluntarily surrendered his license well
before the DVLA required him to because he knew that the combination of
Parkinsons and the medication made him unfit to drive.

The problem is that that amount of disability (and how much effect
there is on the mental processes themselves) is immensely variable. I
know one old boy who has had Parkinsons for 20+ years[1] - but you would
never guess. My dad (on the other hand) has been diagnosed with it for
less than 10 but is much more disabled.
The person affected needs to take medical advice - both about the
degree of impairment and about the side effects of the medication[2].
The DVLA will eventually require their license to be suspended but
won't generally act until they are informed by the specialist
    concerned.

    Phil.

[1] And is still driving. And perfectly capable of doing so.
[2] In Dads case these included hallucinations and paranoia. Not a good
    combination when driving.

  12. Erk. Not good! My fingers are crossed too..
Indeed. Like all such organisations never tell them possibilities -
    only certainties.
Indeed. As I said previously - dad voluntarily surrendered his license
because he knew that he was becoming a danger. He did carry on driving
for 5 years after his diagnosis though and only gave up because his
    Parkinsons is quite severe.
