Do bikes in Sydney have to pay parking meters? If so, since when? Always ?
There aint a problem. It makes sense if you pay for it, you get the entire space. And where do you put the paper ticket if the machine prints one off?
Mine fitted behind the screen on the dash, never had a problem, hock a loogy onto it, and it stays there, or if you regularly park there, bluetack works.
I wish someone had directed me to this site earlier: http://www.mccofnsw.org.au/a/30.html It basically clears up everything I wanted to know and reffirms my worry about parking in designated bays or ticket parking.
Someone needs to take a spellchecker to that site - I'm not usually a spelling Nazi, but if they want to be taken seriously ... Cheers (eg - front numerlates (and not just once) and Fawlty Legislation - yes Basil).
What people tell you and what the law is are two different things. And nobody told me you can get a ticket if another bike parks next to your bike in a parking bay because only one vehicle is supposed to occupy a bay (assuming you paid the meter and therefore haven't done anything wrong) ..What a smart fucking rule! Next time your ticket is stolen, I suppose you won't give a shit, right?
if it is a parking bay, park in the middle so other bikes can park either side of you but it stops cars from creeping in when the parking bays used to be timed, and some odd places still are around the city, each rider who pulled up put a few coins in the machine, that way everyone was covered for a fraction of the cost.
Which, yet again, raises the question of what you're doing here... except giving yourself an outlet for the welled-up nostalgia about some long-lost motorcycling paradise of cheap bikes, lenient cops and sparse traffic which you've convinced yourself once existed.
But trust me on the sunscreen... (I think they threatened to ban him from all the 4wd groups for bitching about how crap his Ducati was...) big

Yes, and _always ask a question_. Never refuse to pay the fine, or it'll just go to court, simply query the exact circumstances and so on, for example "how is a ticket issued to a motorcycle? what is the procedure if it is raining?" rather than "There wasn't a ticket and it was raining anyway." Be polite. If you can keep them on the hop long enough, they may just drop it. Or maybe not. You never know. -----sharks
Anyone here from Perth... Motorcycles are unwanted in the Perth City Area, there are only a few designated motorbike parking bays in the city, and the ones that are five to ten bays side by side become a car bay after 17:30. If I park my bike in a car bay, and pay for the parking, I'll get a fine anyway!!! I dont understand that... If a car comes up and parks in a multiple bike bay, and covers five or six bays he will only get one fine. I reckon he should be fined for each bay that he covers. We are not permitted to park on a footpath at all, not even in the suburbs, I got fined once a few years ago for parking on a footpath, I parked at 7pm and found the fine when I was getting ready to go home after midnight. The prick must have been on his way home, and found one more fine he could print!!! Also, we are not allowed to park between cars, or next to trees (the ones that are planted next to the kerb), the powers that be reckon "ALL" motorcycles leak oil, and will kill the trees... ==== Although, a few years ago me and a mate were looking for a place to park our trail bikes. There was only one bay, so we managed to park both chookies in the one bay. A Grey Ghost came along, had a look, shook his head and stalked off... Up Yours Mate!!! Quokka BMW R1150GS
I waited for the penalty reminder on my last one then sent off a letter at the end of which I requested a summons if they wished to proceed. Got a reply back saying to send in the court election on the original infringement notice. Never did (it'd been at the tip for six months by then). Never heard back.
