Let me rephrase that question - who is this Paris Hilton person?

Nicki Hilton's sister. Paris and Nicki are the heirs of the Hilton

    Good luck to them.

  4. What did Michael Moore say about it? Something to the effect of, "We try to
be nice to rich people because we like to kid ourselves that it could be us
    someday."

Bullshit, Ch7 dragged her here because she's vaguely famous (due to the column
inches she generates in US magazine for basically being a rich party girl) and
being young blonde nubile and willing to flash plenty of flesh was guaranteed to
generate some column inches here, same as Dannii can manage to garner a little
interest in the UK even now when she's seriously yesterday, whereas in Oz nobody
    cares at all

It's the cult of fame taken to it's logical conclusion of having people being
    famous for being famous.

Besides; I find that rock-music keeps my adreneline up and helps me

Her name is Myf(anwy) and her giggle is known to trigger schizoid
embolisms in important people, least of all being myself.

That and she's thick as a timber yard full of planks.

Mmm but I think you're unfair to call it cultural cringe - I think it's more
"thrill of the new" lets face it these sort of celebritys are fairy floss -
they're fun for a few seconds and then they're passé.
See there ya go - Ch7 was punting that their target demographic HAD heard of her
(vie No Idea and Who and etc) and given you don't fit that demographic I doubt
they could care less :) Fat middle aged pommy ex pat bikers don't figure on
    their horizons for some reason.
Going by the letter in yesterday's SMH a lot of New Yorkers wish they could say
    the same,
But Paul ! She's Australia's darling! There is no person on the continent more
important to the wellbeing of Australian society than her ! <sigh> ....from the
same people who bought you Australian Pop Idol* and Jason Donovan <sigh>

At least Delta is reasonably talented - she plays guitar, writes her own
songs and is a damn fine singer, even if she is in the teen-angst-pop genre.
She's a cut above the Pop Idol dross. And besides, the poor kid is having a
rough time of it, which is being fiercely exploited by all the tabloids for
as much as it is worth.

94.5 does good music in WA. Could be why they have 34% of the
listeners (the ABC AM station is second).
At least two of my kids have their car radios tuned to ABC AM. Where
    did I go wrong?

Thinking back, when they were still living at home they used to
    complain about MY loud music.

I'm with you on this one Dane (except for the slightly snide spelling
    correction).
I could stand her when she only did short segments with Merrick and
Rosso (<- hit me Dane!) but as soon as she got her own show my
    tolerance was waaay exceeded!!
    (Mind you; I couldn't stand Caroline Tran(h?) either so I haven't
    really lost anything!)

Sadly won't be there - got the orders from on-high that "tonight we shall

I can't see an easy way out of this one.

I'm in the same boat but Michelle and especially gNat knew who she was (and
who Delta Goodrem is/was too!) so I guess she IS famous among the right
    audience.
(Probably the Pix-People, Sports Illustrated and Who magazine buying people
    know her too.)
