Girl in motorbike crash escapes injury

A three-year-old girl has avoided injury after a motorbike she was riding
with her father crashed in Sydney's west.
The NRMA Careflight service says a 32-year-old man has been taken to
hospital after fracturing his skull when he came off the bike at Glenmore
    Park, near Penrith.
He was not wearing a helmet, and he had to be sedated after he became
    violent.
Paramedics say his daughter was riding on his lap and despite the force of
the crash, she was not injured at all.

I wonder if it was a motorcycle or one of those bloody minibike
    things?

I suppose helmetless means "quick spin around the block to give the
kid a thrill" such as we did on the farm years ago....

Yeah, the information that's given is designed to inflame people's
emotions - I wish there was a bit more detail...

Why is it sad? I thought the article said she was not injured at all.

Sad that a parent'd apparently ride with a child pillion, helmetless
with the child sat on the tank.

  7. So true, and who hasn't put their kid on the tank for a quick run around the
    block,
But as was said, there is no detail as to what kind of bike it was, could
    have been a quad

I took the "park" bit literally and assumed it was in a park (or back yard).
If it was on the street then he deserves to be kicked!

She didn't get hurt, so it must be safe. What's the problem?

In that one instance it was not safe otherwise Dad wouldn't have gotten
hurt. Whether there's ever going to be an instance where doing that is
safe or not, I am not going to say but I have doubts.

So the helmetless might not be safe, the sitting on the tank clearly
    was.

(We don't know what the rider's injury was. Is there any reason to
assume it was a head injury and not a broken leg?)

let us get one thing very straight here. Motorcycling is dangerous.
All protective kit (and sitting on the saddle not the tank) can do is
make consequences of going rubber side up less in some circumstances.

Your helmet will not protect you in all cases, neither with leathers.
Neither will riding in the government approved position[1]. Or at the
government approved speed on a government approved bike come to that.

There's also this matter of statistics. Over the years, a certain
number of people get hurt riding bikes. Some of them didn't wear
helmets/leathers/boots. Alas it is rather hard to find what injuries
people had and match that to riding gear, and to circumstances of crash.
And of course it's a population, it tells you nothing about what might
happen to a single individual when they get on their bike in the
    morning.

Ride your bike how you want to, wearing what you want to, but
acknowledge that you can still get very badly hurt. And that someone
who rides a bike you think is a deathtrap, wearing nothing but a
smile, can do that for years and still be quite unhurt while someone
else in full gear and a nice new bike with ABS and crashbars can end
    up joining the choir invisible.

If the fun ain't worth the possible consequences, buy a car. If it
    is, keep riding.

Only this from the OP indicates a head injury rather than a broken leg :
    Otherwise though, all valid points.

The reports said it was a 3yo girl who was on the bike. It was a 7yo
boy. You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. :)

Nev, this mere mortal would like to know your more reliable source, coz I'm
effing sick of the lies that the News Services (even the ABC! Sheesh!) are
    spreading.

Also, as you know the details of this event, could you enlighten us in order
    to short-circuit further erroneous speculation?

I got a helmet for gNat when she was 4 (and she's a pinhead)!
I had to order it in especially.
    I just got a really light half-face (with a visor) because I reckoned a
fullface would be too hard on her neck.
I never took her above 70kph-or-so until she was about 10.

Um, I did" fucking google it" seeing as all you provided was an
unsubstantiated comment and a smug smiley. smh online (don't believe
everything you read on the internet btw) managed to misquote the original
report anyway, so I'm not too convinced about their veracity either.....
what the hell has happened to ATTENTION TO DETAIL and bloody ACCURACY?????
