Who'd have em? Eh? Eh? Nothing but trouble, IYAM.

ShiteOldDad, having recovered from the last heart scare, fucks off to
southern Spain for a few weeks. And promptly winds up in Malaga Hospital
    not feeling at all well.

Insewerance company (understandably) are not impressed, and it would
seem to fall to me to try to get the silly old sod home.

    Ho-hum, Easyjet here we come...

I have a rare and valuable Scottish parent-in-law who is very ill atm.
Poor old thing (well, 64) seems to have throat cancer and if it's
malignant, weeks to live. She's smoked heavily and drunk whisky all her
    adult life.
AJ is obviously very upset, as is his Dad. Anyone have any experience
(not necessarily 1st hand) of throat cancer and it's prognosis?

get back to you. I'm off to a conference in a minute, I'll be back on
Monday, so I'll mail you then.

Make him find his own way home. Its the only way he'll learn to stand on his
    own two feet[1]

[1] Assuming of course he can still do this.

Get Paul Carmichael to drop by, that should cure him pronto.

I have close experience of it and not positive.

My Aunt was diagnosed with cancer of the throat in 2000. After a
couple of operations and chemo it was discovered it had spread to
other parts of her body. She'd smoked heavily since the age of 13 and
    was in her mid 50's.

She died about 6 months after the diagnosis.

    There's an idea:

"Paul, could you drop by and take a couple of photos of my dad, I want
    to see how he is."

    <later>

    "OH MY GOD!"

Believe it or not it was the film of The Water Babies that my daughter kept
watching. The rich man in the 'big house' kept shouting "pipe clay up the
lum" and at the end someone asks if it was rude.
