The problem with stuff like Little Britain is that it is massively popular
despite being rubbish. Would take a brave commisioner to pull the plug on
it. I've heard that the "IT crowd" on channel 4 is quite good- coming as it
does from the Father Ted and Black Books stable.

Father Ted was the last thing I found funny, other than HIGNFY.
Bizarrely the shittiest of the bunch in recent years seems to be
    anything with Ardal O'Hanlon in.

Phew ... I thought it was just untrendy me that thought it was crap ...
along with that Titty titty bang bang thing and that Catherine Tate
show. British comedy seems to have slithered to the gutter over the past
    few years.

  5. Thanks, I hope so. Bikers welcome BTW ;-) On condition that you promise
to take me for a spin.
No no NO, it has a super duper seriously overpriced alarm conforming to
all the necessary standards, with about 30 quids worth of electronics in
    it. What a rip-off.
VEEERY nice. Alas the budget didn't run to one of those and the fence
would have spoiled the view, so the alarm it is. This year's project is
a sauna, possibly a wood fired one, we shall see....

Oh TFFT. I thought I was the only one that didn't watch it, with the
amount of people coming out with ad-hoc catch phrases and pissing
themselves laughing. I tried it once, and just didn't find it funny.

If Richard Ayoade is as good in that as he was in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
(and Nathan Barley, to a lesser extent) it should we worth a watch

Sort of. I watched the latest Simpsons the other day, and it was pants.
I think I had one laugh out of it. On the other hand, the latest series
of Malcolm in the Middle still has me cracked up.

Oh, 'spose I'm not going to like that either then...
I dont even like Tom and Jerry, the Simpsons or Fools and Horses though,
or Hyacinth Bucket, maybe I'm just a lost cause. Love Father Ted though.
Anyone seen Killanascully? Is it being or is it going to be shown in the
UK? Jury's out on that one here...

  10. Nuther one I've missed.
Bit unlikely this, but does anyone ever remember seeing the first, might
have been a pilot, of Root into Europe? Went on be crap but that first
episode was one of the funniest things I ever remember seeing on TV. He
had to reverse off a ferry. Ring any bells?

Ah, I didn't realise that was an option.
We included it in our house-buying budget, but yes, it's not cheap.
That's next year for me. In the converted-into-a-changing-room cellar,
if and when that gets done.

I've seen a couple of episodes. Good in parts, I thought. Strangely,
some locals here don't like it much. I put that down to the power of
caricature[1]. Like the Rab C. Nesbitt character and Roddy Doyle's work,
the detractors are usually those who don't like their home town/
    city/culchie environment portrayed in a piss-taking way.

    Sensitive souls in denial.
    Dunno.

[1] Fwiw, I've come across many of the characters in Killinascully, irl.
Same with Rab C.; he was an amalgam of about 4 blokes I knew.

  14. Five years to late for us to include it and it's too late, money's all
spent now! Where is your place?
    Likewise, in the not-yet-converted little
shed-stuck-on-the-back-of-the-gite. Saw some rather nice outdoor
wood-fired jacuzzis in Switzerland, a diy one of those is on the
    wish-list too.

I'm struggling to think of a sitcom that was consistently good and
    I've failed.

I can cope with watching Little Britain about 3-4 times a year just to
see if they've come up with anything new and the same goes for any
other programme of a similar type like the Fast Show. HIGNFY leaves me
wanting to change channel because it's so obviously planned and
rehearsed for hours before it goes out that there's no place for any
    spontaneous humour.
I'm a really sad bastard because I've recently been pissing myself
laughing at some Jackass compilation DVD's.

  17. Me too. Like the rest though it gets a bit repetitive doesn't it? Very
low budget I believe, or at least it was in the beginning. I'm imagine
Pat Shortt (or is it Shorrt) is doing well enough out of it now mind
you. D'Unbelievables seems to have died a death, haven't seen or heard
of that for ages. Not sure if that even made it onto TV...
Tis strange, cos all my in-laws live very near they and they all seem to
    love it.
    Know what you mean, but...
Our lot must be of the not-very-sensitive type then.
