For reasons best known to myself I need to paint an old Triang Spot-on
    diecast model car.

It would have been stripped with Nitromors and so back to clean metal (I
    hope).

Anyway, given it's metal and it's been a long time since I had Spitfires
and Heinkels hanging from the ceiling so what paint and how to do it?

Incidentally, where to get the rivets to put it all back together.

All will be revealed if you pop over to uk.rec.model.engineering
Helpful people there.....if sometimes a little 'keen and enthusiastic' about
    their subject...

Get down to your nearest Games Workshop and buy their paints. They're
designed for lead figures and are waterbased making thinning and
washing brushes easy rather than the old-school Humbrol enamels.
Although I see that Humbrol do a range on acrylics now too.

Wallop it with aerosol etch primer and you can then use just about anything.

Createx do a great line in airbrush paints, but Badger (great IF you can get
hold of any) did an even better selection and they're perfect. Aqua based,
so cleaning isn't an issue and neither are fumes/smells.
