Pahnd Island - Hotel?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Jan 8, 2010.

  1. Mrs WUN and I are planning a long weekend on the Isle of Man (not at
    race time).

We'd like a nice hotel, not too fussed where. I'd rather pay more and
get a *nice* place than save a few bob and get a shit-hole.

    SO, any recommendations?

Having never been to the Island myself, is there anything there worth going
    for? [1]
My late father loved the place. I fancy a trip there but have no idea what
to expect or look out for.

[1] other than the racing of course ;o)

We're planning on going next summer. Mainly for the industrial archaeology
but also for the scenery and of course the trains.

    Rusted and ropy.

    or just plain Jurassic:

this edition of BBC2's Coast had some interesting stuff about IoM, its role
as an internment camp for aliens in WW2 plus the usual helicopter shots of
    stunning scenery.

I tend to go with online reviews where I've not been before. The
Sefton would appear to be the only decent proper hotel in Douglas, and
reputed to be the best on the Island. Seems to come out well in the
    majority of reviews too.

Plus when passing I did think "I wish I was staying there, it looks
luxurious" after about 4 nights of the scout hut.

Bloody well should for the money. It's fully booked for TT week, but
the week after will cost you around a grand, rising to 1.5k for a
    week.

Because every time Champ mentioned it he was meant to cough up a pound,
swear-jar stylee. He was mentioning it an awful lot at the time.

We have an Area 51 and rather than hide it in a desert we just turn it
into a SAGA seaside resort, with motorbike racing. Genius.

    Ah, yes the trains.

That would have been why my Dad like it so much.

The Falcon in Port Erin has just been renovated, Mum and Dad stayed
there a couple of months back and said it was really nice. Foods good
    too!
