  1. Right, I'm having a devil of a job sourcing service data for the Piaggio
Ape. There's no service manual available that I can find, not in English
anyway. It too ahes just to find out what sort of plug it needed. It had
a B6HS, which I thought rather hot, but recommendations are either for a
    B6 or B7. It's got a B7 in it now.

I've d/loaded some data on the Vespa PK50, which is the lump that powers
it. This tells you to change the gearbox oil at x km intervals, but
    (annoyingly) gives no further data.

Does anyone know, or know SWK, the following:

    1 Pilot screw setting?

2 Type of oil used in gearbox? EP80 or straight 10/40?

3 How to put oil *in* the gearbox? I've found the level plug, and the
drain plug, but no filler/ Do you just chuck it in through the level
    plug hole?

4 As (3), but for the rear diff.

  2. Oh, and tyre pressures. Tyre pressures would be good.

That would be normal cage practise. Fill up to the bottom of the level
    plug hole.
Probably the same, that's why they've got those holes in the first
    place.

1.5 turns out is the usual starting point, then tweak as necessary.
Usually the latter in 2-smokes, although some people swear by ATF.
Probably - & stop when it reaches the bottom of the hole.
    As above.

On my PX125 I used 10/40 engine oil in a pump oil can through the level
plug - it only takes 250ml (or there abouts).

Same as 3 but my guess is EP80

I have a scanned PX125 workshop manual in half a dozen languages (inc.
English). I can email it if you like.

  7. Ta, and ta to all.
We-ell, this is a 50, so probably not much use, but thanks all the same.

  8. Trouble is, I can't tell which is the pilot screw. There are two
    identical screws, side by side....

    I suppose trial and error.....

One will be the pilot and the other will be the copilot.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, The Older Gentleman typed:
The one on the left is the pilot screw. If that's wrong, you were standing
    upside down.

Have you taken them right out? The pilot/air/fuel/whatever screw should
have a tapered point. If they're both tapered, wibble.
    That'd work too.

They'll be mixture screw, and throttle stop.

If the mixture screw is on the inlet side (more likely), it'll be an air
adjustment, if it's on the engine side, it'll be a fuel adjustment so
will work the opposite way round[1].

[1] In to lean the mixture.

  19. None taken. It's as well to be reminded of the bleedin' obvious, from
time to time. especially as I'll be viewing it while upside down, as it
    were.
