No, don't. This isn't some old banger, it's a highly tuned jewel of a
sports bike. Do things properly. Get yourself to a Kawasaki dealer
and get four proper exhaust gaskets. They're not expensive.

Until you said that I had absolutely no idea. Not got there yet, but
It's just one of those things the man in the shop does at service
    time, innit?

It was on the 750 according to the Haynes book I had. I can't imagine
    the Thou is any different.
    Apparently so.

  4. I've done under-bucket shims several times, and it's a bugger, but not
too bad if you remembert to zip-tie the camchain to the cam sprockets,
so you never lose the timing.
This is what fucks me off - the bodywork. Fairing removal on the Duke -
five minutes. On the Triumph Trophy, when I checked the shims last
autumn, two hours or something daft. I counted over 50 (fifty!) separate
fasteners in the tin where I lobbed them after removal.

Both long side panels, tail piece, fairing right and left sides, belly
pan, protective panels, inner fairing panels, dashboard surround - I
think there were about a dozen bits of plastic.

And they all use different fasteners and have to be replaced in a
definite sequence as they all interlock. Absolute arse-ache of a job.

Yes but I want them NOW! Local dealer didn't have any in so it is
jointing compound. And don't get me started about my non rust removed
downpipes. Bless the chap in the garage though, his mate hadn't been
able to do them so he'd started the job himself with a wire brush as
he knew I wanted to get them on and get away this weekend. When I
lifted my hand (to pat him on the head) he flinched. Anyone would
    think I'm scary or something.

If it does the down pipes will be taken off and the gaskets put on
when they are in stock - next week sometime. In the meantime I *need*
to get out on the bike. In a *really* need fashion. The CG just wont
    cut it.

You may as well leave the downpipes off and just hang the can off the
back of the bike to make it look prettier. The exhaust will blow like a
bastard with no gaskets and just jointing compound.
