I have a 3 ring gas burner where the middle burner doesn't shut off at the tap
    as the thread has stripped.

I know that the thread cannot be redone and I'm very doubtful that the holding
thread cannot be recoiled or whatever.

The O rings are good as when you push the tap it shuts off the burner.

Any chance of making a new tap?

I will sort pics of good and bad tomorrow.

Sorry mate, that pretty much fits the definition of "safety-critical". I
really wouldn't **** about with it, get a new one.

    Have you tried here ..
    http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/caravan/gas/l_id66/caravan_cookers_and_hobs.aspx

Might not have an identical one but might have something similar that
    could be adapted.

I've also used another place for bits in the past, but can't find the
url, have to wait till our lass gets back from her run!

Wuss! The worst that could happen is that a handful of scouts get hurt :)

But seriously, this is the affected thread:

    http://petrolcan.me.uk/ukrm/tap/thread.jpg

    http://petrolcan.me.uk/ukrm/tap/thread_crop.jpg (close up)

and this is one of the working taps:

I'm guessing that the tap shaft is made of brass? The female thread is fine as
it will hold a good tap.

    I have and no luck.
I did a search a few months back and came up with nothing although a new search
this morning found these lot(1) stocking them and they've given me a number of
    their supplier

It's an Italian Foker(2) that no-one seems to do spares for.
    Hurry up.

Get bolt with same thread from fastener suppliers, cut tap just below
the damaged thread, use new bolt to hold remains of tap in. Glue them
together if the gas pressure won't always pop it open.

These are the ones we've used before .. they gave great service, but it
doesn't look like they do Foker stuff. Might be worth a call though ..

    http://www.leisurespares.co.uk/

...and these seem to supply foker cookers so might have access to spares.

If anyone undertook that job (simple as it appears to be) and the shit hit
the fan, guess who will catch most of the shit? If you can't even connect a
gas appliance to the "grid" without having what was once a Corgi Reg I would
imagine that someone *making* a tap or even repairing one would be leaving
themselves wide open for a fucking and not a pleasant one.

I'd buy a new part or if a new part can't be found, a new cooker. They're
    not *that* expensive, are they?

Oh, I am very aware of the implications if things went tits up. I figured there
would be no harm in posting on the off chance.
Cannot seem to find a spares supplier although I was given a number to call
today so will hopefully get somewhere later in the week.

New unit is about £140 and that might end up the best way to go.

Hmm, gotta be worth a go as it looks like the whole lot is going in the bin if
    I can't find a spares supplier.

Seems ES didn't pick up your post hence slow reply.
A few scouts might whinge for a while ;-)

He won't need to glue them as the bolt won't need to pull the valve
    out.

  17. 'Course you can, just not for anyone else or for money. You have to be
'competent', defined by not actually blowing up your house.

Think we already did that a while back. The OP made the same wrong
    assertion then.

Or your local scout troop? I'm willing to bet the rules affecting something
for personal use don't apply when a group of youthful potential victims are
the ones deemed to be at risk.

Of course I could well be wrong and if the tap in question *did* cause a
problem, it'd be Ok because the repairer said he was competent.
