I'm off on a little trip through Wiltshire tomorrow with some lovely
company. Thought about taking a look at the White Horse, Avebury, Old
Sarum and stuff like that. Wondering if there are any not so well known
places, which are worth a stop and look at. On the loop around I
planned to stop at the Mayfly Inn jst south of Andover, which is
Hampshire, but a lovely place nevertheless. Unless somebody has a good
suggestion for a nice, above average, pub/restaurant for dinner in the
    area.

On your way back from Avebury to the Westbury White Horse, pop into The 3
Magpies at Sells green, near Seend for lunch. Very biker friendly and a
cracking homemade game pie. Goes nice with a pint or several of Wadworths
    JCB. Yum.

Sounds good, I like gastro pubs if the grub is as good as they believe
    it is.

I honestly can't remember the last time I went anywhere that was
bike *unfriendly*. This isn't the 1970s, you know. The world's
started to realise that we're all IT consultants, not Hell's Angels.

If she's called Alison, she could do you a good hairdo at the same time![1]
I've been there a couple of times, and the food and beer make this well
worth a visit - much of the food is sourced locally (T-bone steak from the
farm next door - I feel sure, if I'd asked, I'd have been told the name of
the cow from which my steak had come!).

[1] Alison used to do mobile hairdressing in North Wiltshire about 6 years
ago before they got the pub, and when we lived in Chippenham was a regular
    visitor to chez Ashworth!
