Not if you know what it is, no.

Are you Britain's entry for the "Clueless Cretin-a-thon" sponsored by
    "Mom's home-made fuckwits"?
Umm, yes, steel is /an/ alloy...
    <boggle>

Well, "Duh!" I know what /this/ Honda sidestand is made from, I don't
claim to know what all Honda sidestands are made from, although I'd hazard
a guess that a very large proportion of them are made of steel, as per my
    original posting.

Y'know, taking something someone has posted already and either editing it
or repeating it back at the OP as if an original thought is the Usenet
equivalent of a 7 year-old's playground taunts; "You smell!", "No, /you/
    smell!", etc.

Look, you stated at the outset that you wanted to "stick your oar in"; why
not remove it now before someone sticks it up your arse and breaks it off?
You've blundered into this thread like the oafish rugger-bugger who
spills everyone's pint, insults the women and actually /wants/ a damned
    good shoeing.

Cor, I've never met one of them, you know. Well, not till recently,
    anyway.

    Clueless? Hah!
What on earth are you talking about? You really don't have a clue about
how many alloys of steel there are, do you?

See above, saying a sidestand is made of "steel" demonstrates your
    complete ignorance of the subject.
You started the name calling, if you don't like it, don't do it. You seem
like one of those people who can dish it out, then start crying when you
    get it back.
Now who's acting like a playground bully? Just because I repeated your
"steaming pile of shit" insult, you've gone completely off your trolley.
You really have no idea why I made my original comment, do you? Ignorance
    again.

Now go ahead, you've lost control of that shovel, let's see how far you
    can go.

Andy, I never wanted to start all this crap.
All I did was to offer a simple caveat, but in doing so, I was dragged
into all sorts of arguments where I felt I had to defend myself.
People became abusive with no reason, I didn't start that, but I will
    answer it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to take my spare Yamaha sidestand to work and find out
exactly what the **** is in it. Then I won't tell anybody.

    [snip deranged meanderings]
Right-ho, skipper. May the fleas of a thou...No, too old. Go fu...No,
    too obvious.

    Hmm, tricky...

Look, wiseguy, you wrote -- and I quote -- "I would just like to stick my
oar in here and say: a sidestand is prolly a casting of some unknown
alloy" despite clearly not having read and/or
understood/been-remotely-aware-of the full story, in fact, a classic ukrm
    response to a post.

Subsequently, you seemed to feel it necessary to flex your vast and mighty
knowledge of welding and metallurgy and ridicule the poor, ignorant
masses, myself included who, frankly, don't give a flying **** what
percentage of molybdenum or what AISI or SAE Number steel their sidestands
were hewn from, and go off on a quite typical display of pointless
    pedantry.

Glad you feel you've made a difference, though.
