    Heh.

I'm thinking of doing a course on it now just for fun. Except I could
see it ending in tears with me wanting to weld everything in sight. A
    bit like the alternative angle-grinder.

  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
Cast Iron Sidestands? Why youngfellermelad, we've got all sorts of Cast
Iron Goodies down at the Olde Cast Irone Workes. Why, only this morning
that nice young Mr 'Onda was in asking for some of our Pig Iron Special
Edition, but I said to 'im we couldn't do it, not for love nor money,
since all our production of sidestands was taken up by some Scouse Burd.

Can do you a lovely line in pot'andles, though. Only a tenner a gross.

  6. heh. Ive done that but ended up with it wedged in a garden border,
having to lean the bike on a wheelie bin leant on a tree and go and
introduce myself to my new neighbours!

where's he doing his track day? he offered me a go of his bike the other
week outside the SP but i declined.... i wouldn't mind a go on the track
    though, :)

Have you got the CBR yet? if so where did you get it from? local dealer?
    private?

i'm still in two minds whether to go for a gixxer myself, i've just renewed
my insurance an it's down to £102 tpft with 1 yr NCB so i should be able to
    do a gixxer 600 or 750 now???

might see you on Wednesday night, fucking MOT ppl there again i suppose?

He's going back to Oulton Park sometime in June. Of course, now having
much of a conversation with him is difficult cos h's currently 'wiv a
    burd' and so pre-occupied..
Picked it up Saturday, local dealer but at a good price for a dealer -
something to do with the amount of business I've put their way recently
    ;o)

Well, if Steve can tear himself away take the bike out for a quick
    blast? I don't think you'll be disappointed, and you'll get a genuine
Alstare limited edition, not a Suzuki that's only had the paint job to
    make it look that way.
Aye, Vicky wants a go on the CBR.

when you say local dealer, you mean Almaxx or Rothwells???

Nope, Bridge Road Motorcycles. Almaxx didn't have what I wanted in,
and I wouldn't buy a washer from that thieving **** who owns Rothwells,
    never mind a bike.

Now, see, this is completely different to what I'm used to.
If any welder in places where I work were to do this sort of thing without
first checking what material it was and which electrode to use, they'd be
out of a job... Well, prolly not, but 99% of them wouldn't consider it a
    wise thing to do.
Do you mean cast steel, a fabricated item implies that it's made out of
    several bits and, er, fabricated.
Again, I never said it was cast iron, read my post in the thread about the
    Aprilia side stand.
A general purpose electrode would prolly do the job eg. 7018.

    Didn't we do this, already?

    http://www.google.co.uk/groups?q=g:...lm=

Sidestand was chopped by about an inch and a new foot fabricated and
    welded on.

What a steaming pile of shit.

Maybe in your world sidestands are made of "unknown alloy", but in this
reality, they're generally good old-fashioned steel. Mebbe some
Italian exotica like MVs or Benellis or even some of the Duc's have fancy
stands, but Mr.'Onda, he make functional sidestand of steel.

  18. I just ground the stop down so the side stand reached further forward.
This makes the bike lean over more and has the added advantage of making
it harder to roll off of the side stand.

    Ho hum, another one.
What a steaming pile of shit.
What is "good old-fashioned steel" when it's at home?

ps. "Alloy" is what steel is, do you know what a Honda sidestand is made
    of ?
    No, I didn't think so.
