Having had a look at the roads[1] on the spiffy DVD they[2,3] sent me,
I'm beginning to think a 1200GS may be a better option.

    Bigger panniers, too, probably.

I'd better ring Prestige[4] in the week, and see what they've got for
    temporary trundling duties.

[1] Gravel, puddles, sheep, etc. Also a bit of beach riding was
    featured. Not really GoldWing territory.
[2] NZ m/c tours and rentals.
    [3] Doesn't it look like Scotland? :)
[4] Brackens appears to be solely KTM now.

    A mate has one.

It burns 1 quart of oil every 800 miles.
Had to have both front rotors/pads replaced.
    ABS quit working.

It's been in the shop more times than I can remember.

Get a V-Strom mate, lighter, more power and less dosh. Oh, and you'll be
    able to ride it more.

muddy emerged from their own little world to say
He's not buying one but hiring it in NZ.

IMV an R-GS would be ideal transport for Mr & Mrs Dodger. My recommendation
would be a 1150 Adv with the full monty aluminium panniers.

I've toured in France with a couple who were on an 1150GS - each of them
was considerably bigger than the respective Mr/Mrs Dodger [1]

[1] assuming that the Dodgers have not grown significantly since the one
    time I met them

    Oh, there's fun.

For all you visiting my bit of the world in future, there's a new place
    renting sport bikes now.
