Have you seen the high definition (but very old) aerial photos of France
    at mappy yet?

    lI copied it in bits...

And it was really nice trying to trace some of the trails I took ginge, dnc
and spete along last month. If a bit weird as the pics all have greenness
and things that are old and/or not there or things not there that are there
    iyswim...... :)

Bad form. On checking Cahors, I'm guessing 5 years out of date,
    minimum......

When my fil was over last year I was showing him GoogleEarth.
All was fine until we zoomed-in on his house and he went into a panic
because his car wasn't parked on the drive (a friend having given him a lift
    to the airport).

It took me ages to explain that the pics weren't "real time"!

Indeed. I have managed to 'virtually' suss out a couple of possible
newroutes in our area using it and a largish scale map (the blue ones
from supermarkets - can't remember the name). Problem is that in a
heavily forested region you often cannot see the line of the track on
    the photos.

Now this is available I will be looking more closely at the digital
photo I took of the enduro route pinned up at the start finish of the
one I went to watch in October. Still haven't worked out exactly where
the famous Gilles Lalay Classique 'Dead Crow Hill' is.

From the ones of my place I reckon those particular shots were taken as
long as 15 years ago or more (size of trees). The 'joins' are quite fun.
the big lake was obviously choppy from wind on one shot and flat calm on
    the adjoining one.

I'm guessing at around 2000/2001. I can't be sure, but the car parked
in our yard is certainly a long black one, which would point at the
Volvo, hence after we moved in in 2000. But there's a roundabout at
the bottom of our drive now which isn't there, and no hole for our
pool, both of which I think were started by late 2001.

So about a year older than the google earth one, then, which has the
roundabout and just a hole for the pool. About the same level of
    detail in our area too.

We are just a blur on Google Earth. Seriously 'stick the pig on the wall
to watch the band go by' rural it is [1].

[1] A very whimsical 'folk lore' reference from my native 'black
    country'[2] (Google is your friend).
    [2] Don't bother - I've heard them all before.

Heh. We're in hi-res, I guess, due to our relative proximity to Basel
and Mulhouse (~25km each) rather than any inherent interest in the
    area itself.
