Completely mad, you want? Rolls-Royce Olympus. Times four. With reheat.

I suppose we could just attach the wheel to the bottom of the gondola.

Thus spake platypus () unto the assembled multitudes:
No no no; if you want street cred with a monowheel it just has to be a RR
    Merlin.

Mounted axially. Wouldn't even need a drive connection.

Thus spake Mark Olson () unto the assembled multitudes:
That's if you're happy to faff around keeping the damn thing going:

    [Wikipedia]
"the Wasp Major was troublesome on the ground. Crankcase oil leaks were
    very common..."
"...one of the few engines that could shut down in perfect running order and
have something wrong with it the next time it was started up"
"extensive checklist for start-up and shutdown procedures that could last
    for more that six hours."

Nah, feck that, I'll have a nice reliable Merlin if it's all the same to
you. Plus there is the added bonus of tinkering with Miss Shilling's

I was thinking of that, but a Rolls-Royce Vulture might be better.

My experience leads me to say anything English Electric - and less than
18 cylinders - is probably ok. More than 4 turbos I can't really
    comment.

Well, we could use a KDF8 for engine management.
