Paging TOG

    For one of them valuation thingies again, please :)

    SO has seen/ridden a VFR750, N reg, with about 40k miles on the clock.
    Cosmetically it's pretty rough looking, cracked fairing, furry looking
    swingarm/rear shock, dodgy paint job on tank and the exhaust (apart from
    can) is pretty ropey and has just been patched. Apart from that, the engine
    sounds good and the bloke who owns it has had it serviced regularly (damage
    to bike was previous owner to him).

    Biketrader and MCN vary from the sublime to ridiculous, so got no idea what
    it's worth. However, there seems to be a level at which the value never
    seems to drop.

    He wants about £2100 for it.

    A ten year old bike with 40k up, in dodgy cosmetic condition with a
    knackered exhaust - do you *know* how much an exhaust is for a VFR?

    I know *exactly* how much a VFR exhaust costs.
    Ta for that. My feeling is to walk away tbh.

  7. There's eff-all point in using ongoing Ebay auctions as a price guide
    because all the bidding action happens in the last two minutes.

    Completed auctions are much more useful.

    That said, there are a couple of BINs there which suggest that, yes,
    this seller has got his head somewhere north of his lower intestine.

    It's not just the price of the exhaust, it is the fitting thereof...
    The collector box is connected to the rear downpipes, which you cant get
    off unless you drop the motor.
    There has been loads said about this before, (take the swingarm off
    etc), but it's not an easy job anyway you do it.

    Thanks, peeps - and thanks also to Lozzo for wise words on the yellingbone.

    I must admit that on seeing it my heart sank, and the closer I looked the
    worse it seemed. About the only good thing to say about it was that it had
    new-ish tyres. And chain and sprockets. And a touring Scottoiler :eek:)

    OTOH there were bites out of the fairing, cracks in same, crazed paint on
    the tank, rust here and there, a great big gobbet of exhaust repair goo on
    the collector, a red flip-up screen <shudder> and a small clear voice inside
    my head saying "Noooooooooo"

    I insisted on not listening to the voice long enough to take it up the road
    and back, and after a clanky old Yam XJ600 (sorry darling, I know you can't
    see this from the garden) BY CHRIST it was quick. And it handled. And had a
    gearchange like a gentleman's hand on a young lady's thigh - smooth and
    purposeful.

    But no. I am indebted to that most unlikely discovery - voices of reason on
    UKRM ;o)

    It's a shame, as Bloke doesn't come across as being deliberately on the
    make - IMO he genuinely doesn't realise that it's a crock of shit.

  11. This alone, on a VFR, would make me run a mile. It means the main header
    pipe assembly is dead, and as Champ said, the bill here can top £1000.
