Following your recommendation, I coughed £40 [1] to join the Wine Society.

The first case arrived last week & I've just tucked in. I plumped for a
case of Château Bois Joly, 2005, Côtes de Castillon which is a delicious,
merlot rich claret and good value at £7.25 a bottle.

Hopefully, future purchases will be as good.

[1] of the £40 you get a £10 credit towards your first order. The rest of
the fee gives lifetime membership with no committment ot place any orders.
Delivery is free whereas other "clubs" charge up to £7, so I view it as an
    advance on delivery charges.

  2. Oh, well done.
    Noted for future reference
I've been a member for, oh, I dunno, 30 years or so. Went for 15 years
at least without buying, until the recent depreciation of sterling
against the euro made it worthwhile again. Wish I'd re-started earlier,
    to be honest.

Free delivery is a Good Thing, yes. I've got a case of mixed Plaimont
(like Madiran, a south-estern French wine) arriving this week.

Seems the 2005 has sold out, now pushing the 2007 at £6.50

  4. Sounds like a bargain, but was it a good year?

Unlikely to be as good as the 2005. decanter.com has nearby St Emillion as
    "drink early".

I'd say so, my MiL died in 2007.

  8. For most varieties, 2005 was the best vintage in decades.

I spent christmas a couple of years back necking 2005 Pomerol. Should've
kept it really but I'd drunk everything else in the rack by then.
